Help with conecting video cam to PC
Discussion
Hi guys I wonder if anyone can assist.
I have an old HI8 camcorder. Is it possible to connect this to my PC so that I can create a DVD?
The camera has a 3.5mm or SVHS output. I also have a SVHS socket on the PC, presumably the sound/graphics card but is this an input?
Any help welcome.
Cheers
Richard

You need an analog to digital converter dongle thingy. Pinnacle make some:

Note that you'll need some DVD authoring software, too, since it's not just a matter of blowing an AVI onto a DVD. And if you want to edit the video, some video editing software; Windows Movie Maker 2 seems to be quite good (Anyone know where MS bought it from? They can't possibly have written it themselves).
There are some quite good newsgroups on this topic;
microsoft.public.windowsxp.moviemaker
microsoft.public.windowsxp.video

I bought a firewire card for the job, it came with the editing software. (This only allows DV input; most of my recording is done on a bog standard DV camcorder. When I want to upload tapes from the old VHS-C camcorder I play it through the DV one which does the analogue-digital conversion for me.)

Make sure you buy a DV camera which allows this; not all of them have an A/D converter input.
