ADSL ISP Sticky
Discussion
I used Eclipse Broadband.
2Mb downloads
3 month contracts
No download limits
No Capping
No excess download charges
Can use ANYONES hardware like Wireless Hubs
Regularly feature at the top of ADSL speed charts.
They don't have a poxy national or 0845 number.
There are others but I love this ISP.

Plus.net is the one to go for I think.
- Slow. 1Mb when I pay for a 4Mb and my neighbour gets that!?!?!?
- Unreliable - Never used to go down but lately the service is appalling.
- Rubbish customer support. Refuses refunds for genuine cases and never follows up.
- Static IP - probably the only good thing.
- 250MB of proper web space and parking for up to 2 domains, however the bandwidth of this space is included with your day to day browsing bandwidth so i discovered. So you can't really use it.
edited now to reflect my new experiences with the ISP.
Plus.net are rubbish. Try again.

Nildram

I have quite a few remote sites that have various flavours of ADSL, all through Eclipse. We've also been using them at our main office for almost 5 years for ADSL (which we're soon upgrading to SDSL). If you need telephone tech support you often have to wait 5 minutes to get through but when you do they're pretty good and all our tech support tickets are delt with quickly. All eight connections have always been pretty reliable. Their online management is good. I'd recommend them for business use or home users who want a basic set up without any fuss.
We also use Andrews and Arnolds for 4 other ADSL connections and they are superb. They are a small, cutting edge, highly technical company with excellent customer service for the tech savvy customer - all their support staff really know their stuff. Though I wouldnt recommend them if you're IT knowledge is limited. They will do anything to accommodate your requirements. Particularly good on issues with open source platforms. They write all their own software for hosting, site/connection management, billing etc so they're very flexible.

im with pipex 1mb at 23.44, with no connection fee and free modem.
connection is also very fast.
yep customer service can be slow but i hopefully wil never need them
i do hear alot of good things about zen but i object to paying a 59 pound setup fee. Alos their 1mb lines are way overpricd (35 quid !).Plus their modem is 33 quid

I've just pre-ordered broadband from Plus-net ready for when our little town gets broadband enabled next week.
Phoned them up to check it was OK for me to order it early, got straight through to them, very helpful to.
It costs £22 a month for a 2Mb connection (with a 30:1 contension ratio) which I went for, they also do a £15 a month 2Mb (50:1 ratio)
As far as reliability is concerned I'm not sure yet but I'll edit this post when I know more.
Heard only good things about them though.
Watch this space!!

_dan_ said:I'm looking to get broadband installed into my flat and will probably go with Plus-Net given it's ratings here and on ADSLGuide. However, is the contension ration the only difference between these two packages? And what difference does it really make to speeds?

cheers

Andrews And Arnold, proper dns, proper routed subnet for as many statics as you want, tech support know their stuff.
Only been down once for 15 minutes in the last 4 months and I had a txta to my mobile to inform me about 2 minutes after it had died and another after it came back up.
Blinding service.

Just don’t go with Tiscali! Wondering why? Go check out there support forum, oh! wait you cant look at it until your a sucker too!
I had to email almost everyone to get released from a tiscali contract. For peoples reference here a handy email if you have problems too jody.haskayne@uk.tiscali.com (Tiscali PR director)
Setting up a Zen account next. There a bit more expensive than other providers but I'd rather pay the extra and get people on the phone who don’t live in Deli! Bless em!!
Been using UKonline for a few weeks now and have to say, very impressed! Not had a dropped connection at all (and I stayed logged on for msn 27/7) and download speeds are consistently good (adslguide reports 490ish kbps IIRC).
Now using the connection to work from home too and it's like being in the office. Just without the boss looking over you shoulder!
For a tenner a month I can't complain!
