Quick iTunes question

How on earth do I get tunes from a PC laptop on to a Mac?

Please use simple language - I only just progressed from chiselling messages on stone slabs.

Do you need to know how to copy the file over, or how to get iTunes on the Mac to play it?

Ah sorry, I want to copy the files over. I tried a memory stick, but the Mac didn't seem to recognise there was anything on it

Are the two on the same network? You could copy them over that way then.
Email them to an account you check on the Mac?

Set up iTunes to burn mp3 cd's and burn them all onto a CD/DVD. Then whack it into the mac and import them.

It should recognise the memorystick though, my Mac recognises my USB stick no problems.

The PC doesn't burn unfortunately. I'll give the stick another go but it hasn't gone according to plan so far

If you have a Firewire card in the PC, Macs have the ability to be booted as an external Firewire drive which you can then connect to your PC and it will appear as a drive. To do it, you switch off the Mac, then hold down "T" while you power it on.

This might be a OS X feature, I'm not sure.

You can copy to/from the PC.

Boot the Mac in target mode. Connect to PC.
You'll then be able to access the entire hard disk on the Mac - it will appear as a drive under My Computer on the PC.
Using the PC, create a folder on the Mac hard drive.
Copy whatever files you like from the PC to the folder.
Job done.

You would need a firewire card in your PC though, which i suspect you don't have.

You could give it to someone with a home network who could connect it to another PC with a CD/DVD writer.

They may not give it back though

Just buy a CD writer, they're peanuts nowadays.

Even cheaper than stone slabs.

If you can connect the two computers up to the same network then you could use an application such as OurTunes (http://ourtunes.sourceforge.net/) to copy all of the files over to either computer.

Simply copy the iTunes Music folder from the PC to the Mac (I did this via FireWire - 400Mb networking :-D) and then import that folder into iTunes at the Mac end.
