Laptop advice

I need a laptop for working on the move and thought the informed brethren here might be able to help me choose one.

Requirements:
Compact
Well designed
Good quality
Good screen
Bluetooth/WiFi
CD/DVD-RW
Good battery life
Lightweight

So far, I really like the Sony "S" series with the X-Black screen technology. Perfect size and screen, but a tad too expensive for my budget. What's a good alternative?

I to have been looking for a new laptop of late. I have been more swayed towards the Toshiba and Dell ones. Basically seems you can get one spec'd the way you want- they have so many options... but thats where it gets confusing.

A Mac? Aren't they only bought by people who have Smarts and Dysons?

I probably need it to be Windoze, but I may pop into town today and investigate what they are all about.
