Sky Broadband

For Sky TV customers:
2Mb - Free (monthly download cap)
8Mb - £5/Month (monthly download cap)
16Mb - £10/Month (no limit)

I signed up at the weekend, should get my free ADSL Modem/Wireless router in the post in the next few days. The call centre who rang me said I was the 1st in the country to sign up as everyone she had called was out (Friday night).

I opted for the 16 Mb option with free connection. I'm switching from Plus.Net where I was paying £22.99/Month for 2Mb.

Seems like a no brainer if you already have Sky.

Were you one of the unlucky people lose all their emails?

Bollocks. Have just signed up to 18 months of talktalk broadband, costing £10.99 per month for 8Mb with 40 cap.

Worse, they 'archived' my website because I went over the bandwidth limits for that month, then lost the archive (and the backup!).

Not even an apology, just excuses about customers should keep their own backups, which I do, still annoyed me though.

Is a no brainer but if you choose to leave Sky TV they pull the plug on this too.

Is there any website space in the package?

Yep, as soon as it's available I'll be using it.

Currently have Pipex 1 meg for £20 or so. Yes I could get it cheaper but can't be arsed changing all the time.

Will just go straight to Sky service.

So is it just ADSL again then, will my wireless router still work with it?

I assume so, I might just use their kit as my current ADSL modem has a max rating 8Mb. It'll probably be a PPPoE/A username and password affair so existing hardware should work. I'll report back when I get the kit.

Darn it, just switched from Demon (£25 a month!) to Tiscali, £12.99 a month, no download limits. Speed is pretty academic as I only seem to get 1MB on my line, Demon was supposed to be 2. I assume the Tiscali has a year's term, then again I couldn't switch as Sky keep sending me things saying "Sky broadband is great - we just can't supply it for your area".

Is the Sky broadband via the Satellite link or just good old traditional broadband?

You lot are stuffed if you thing you're in for a good deal...

My digital Sky package started at £19.95 a month....

Jumped in leaps and bounds, at an obscene rate, to £42 a month...

Availability and speeds are subject to your location, a compatible line, equipment and survey.

I'm guessing ADSL/ADSL2 based probably especially considering the speeds mentioned.

Bad luck Harry - I'm going absolutely with these guys. I think they're overloaded with demand - they don't reply to phone calls, emails, won't give a date for switching on the broadband even though they told me to cancel my old BT Broadband. Nightmare!

Am thinking of cancelling the direct debit, but just waiting for them to argue that they're supplying the phone service I'm paying £20 a month for and that the Broadband is just a free 'extra', so they're not in breach of contract. £70 cancellation fee too apparently as well as the upfront fee. Tossers. Wish I hadn't bothered now as without internet at home and no idea how long for....

Sky bought up EasyNet which were in the process of upgrading certain exchanges ("unbundled" whatever that means?)

Here a list

If your exchange is on the list you should be able to get the 16Mb speed.

How's that work then? I joined years ago for around £15 a month iirc, and the price has crept up to £21. Nowehere near the rise you guys have experienced.

How come?

I never understood this Talk Talk thing - because if you're after broadband only then its not free is it! You have to pay nigh on £20 for the International phone plan - and there's a 3 month waiting list! I just got a BT line for £11 and then signed up to Tiscali for £12, and was up and running within a week - for the sake of £3!
