I have tried to add my website to their directory as it is supposed to be such a good directory. I submitted it in about May/June and heard nothing.

I looked into it again about a month ago and realised that the category doesn't appear to have an editor so I re submitted my site and applied to be an editor as well. Still nothing and no response to application - not even an acknowledgment......

Oh, and when you apply to be an editor you are supposed to suggest 3 more sites for inclusion in the directory category as well - how do you know 3 sites that are not already listed? Or am I missing something?

Cheers,

Neil

I'd never heard of it so I had a look and couldn't find a 'contact us'.

Best I could come up with:
http://blog.dmoz.org/

Which, as the last entry was 26th Sept, at least shows it's still active.

Not much help I know but.....

DMOZ is still active. Bear in mind that it can take up to 12 months before your site is reviewed, and they never do inform you if it's been accepted or rejected. I'd suggest waiting at least 6 months between submissions - any less and it could well be that your site has still not reached the top of the queue, and submitting it again will simply set it back to the beginning of the queue. The impact of a DMOZ listing on your site's search results position is almost negligible now, so best to submit once and forget about it for a year.

If applying to be an editor, then follow the guidelines exactly. You can use the search function to check for the existence of any site that you might be considering for recommended inclusion.

If it's casa-blanca-rural.com that you're submitting, then I'm afraid it's just not going to pass the cut.

Is it a sign of how important Dmoz is, when this thread first appeared, I had to google for what it was?

It's submit and forget about it personally, same as any other web directory. Human reviewed... or not.

Thanks for your responses, I think I was under the impression that DMOZ was more important than it appears to be.

David - what does a site need to have to be up to standard?

Cheers all.
