Need some assistance from a PC/Mobile connectivity guru.

I have a Nokia 6630(don’t laugh) which is locked to Vodafone if that makes any difference. I would like to get it to talk to my PC via the Nokia PC Suite.

I have bought a USB DKU-5 cable, installed the drivers that came with it and the PC(XP SP2) picks it up fine. When I look in the device manager it is there listed in the Ports section on COM4.
If I plug in the cable in or unplug it from the PC I get an audible warning which would suggest the PC to cable connection is good.
If I then plug the phone on to the cable it makes no difference to anything, the PC will not see it, the PC Suite will not see it.
I have tried downloading cable drivers from Nokia, made no difference. The phone is fully charged, have tried it with Sim in/out, it is not locked, barred and connects perfectly with Bluetooth to anything else.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Feel free to suggest something obvious, I won’t be insulted(yes, the PC was on when I tried wink)

Did you plug it into the computer before you installed the software? Is there a big yellow question mark in Device manager? If so try removing that first.

Make sure you have the correct cable for your phone. There is a DKU-2 as well as a DKU-5. Both fit the phone but only 1 works.

I had problems with this programme a while back. If you uninstall it and then reinstall it that may help.

At some point during installation you need to plug the phone in so it can load the port drivers - that's where it goes wrong iirc.

Also, is it a Nokia branded cable or an eBay special? IME the clone cables simply don't work but the (more expensive) Nokia ones do.

You want a DKU-2 or a CA-53 with the 6630. I had one talking to a PC the other day using a CA-53.

To all that said I needed a DKU-2 you were spot on. Borrowed a genuine Nokia from a mate to try, plugged it in and the mobile and PC are now happy to talk.

Anyone tried unlocking one of these mobiles from Vodafone(PM me if you prefer)?
