I'm new to laptops. My new one has wifi which I get the internet through. This works fine while the laptop is connected to mains power, but when on battery power it disconnects, then 10 seconds later re-connects, and it does this every 60 seconds or so.

Is this normal? I dont imagine it is, so what can I do to sort it? It's driving me mad!

Check the network card properties - sometimes there is a check box for 'disconnect on battery power' - to save the battery power. Deselecting usually means the wifi card will always be on and so battery life will be lower. Certainly I've seen laptops with LAN cards having this so it might apply for WiFi as well.

I agree. You will probably find in the properties this is the case. The reason it re-connects is that the card will power itslef up again to refresh the network status and then shut down again.

Thanks chaps. I found some power saving settings and changed the battery power profile for the wifi from "low power saving" to "max performance". It seems to be better since doing that. *touches wood*

ETA haha, coincidence that I get PH connection problems while on battery power?!
