Is it possible to block incomming emails from ip addresses in, say, China?

From a specific email account, yes, from all of china.. only if you want to use a sledgehammer.. there are some psuedo-accurate lists of countries --> IP addresses, but china for example has a few billion IPs, so they're in many many different ip blocks.

Oh well.
I had hoped to halve my spam input.

You can tie your email acceptance with some of the Spam Blacklists, this will certainly help to drop the amount of spam you get.. you'd need to talk to your email provider about this though.

Just wait till some spammer scum gets hold of your email address and uses it as a return address for their spam....

Then you'll know what volume of unwanted emails is all about. I was getting thousands an hour, my mail server actually had to do some work...
