Mods – I know this isn’t the tumbleweed computer section but since we all have printers and nobody posts there could we cut a little slack before moving this?

I would like to buy a printer that has cartridges and heads together. I seem to be forever head cleaning/unclogging nozzles regardless of original or cheap ink used. Bought a second printer to always have one working, because I use each printer even less it has only made matters worse.

So, what make/model of printer can I buy so when the heads gets clogged I can just replace that cartridge and get on with what I want to do without getting up to my elbows in printer ink?
Don’t print many photos but if it is capable of doing them I would prefer it. Printer only, for home use so nothing too fancy (no screen, card reader, scanner etc). Under £100 preferred as I know it will end up in the bin sooner rather than later.

Walking into Politically Correct World and asking them is not an option I would want to consider.

Many thanks.

I only really use Epson, who don't have the heads on the cartridges and never have clogging problems really.

However, as I recall, HP seem to have cartridges with the heads on - go check them out.

Ribol, you'll find that the Computer Section is pretty well read, and well supported by the knowledgable IT people (including me) on PH.

You'll get your answer quicker and with more authority in here.

How about a cheap laser printer - no printhead problems then. Initial cost isn't great, but the consumables can be. However a normal cartridge will last 5,000 pages, which would be a couple of years with your usage.

Hi,

I second the lazer route, I was having similar issue's to you and bought one about 4 years ago and have not had to replace the cartridge yet.

Have a look at this.

I also tend to got for HP as they are bottom feed printers generally and I find that these tend to jam less than the one that are fed from the top. I needent be HP but I would recomend a bottom feeder.

Must admit I hadn't even considered that route, can I ask what the advantages are of a laser printer over a bubble jet?

The quality used to be so much better on lasers years ago but today there doesn't seem to be a lot in it. Are they still ok for photos (if you buy one for £150) or are they more for knocking out office work?

Why are they still selling both?

yes HP. Bear in mind that HP cartridges seem to be a bit more expensive than some of the other manufacturers.

Just to confuse the issue but the Xerox wax printers are neither inkjet nor laser!

Ribol - what printers are you having problems with?

LASER - acronym Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation

Thanks, but isn't that a bit like answering a £10k what car thread and suggesting a £35k car with a minimum trade in value of £10K on your old car?

As I understand it HP and Lexmark have cartridges with integral print heads - that's why they cost more than Epson etc.
