I had an O2 XDa years ago and carrying around a PDA and a mobile is a pain, so I'm looking to get an all in one.

I'm after one with:
a physical keyboard (so probably a sliding one)
a camera of about 3MP

Any recommendations please...

:-)

Door 1: The new HTC Touch Plus is just out now. Going to be sold on T-Mobile as the Vario IV (not the "Compact IV")... pretty much the sweetest Windows Mobile one out there. It's still Windows Mobile, mind. ;-)

Door 2: The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 will be out by the end of the year. Snazzier than the HTC, but neither out, nor probably quite as functional (keyboard isn't great)

Door 3: Get a normal smart-phone, and a bluetooth keyboard.

Door 4: Probably lots of others, but it's late and I'm tired.

Personally, if you didn't mind Windows Mobile - the Touch Pro is a VERY nice little gadget. smile

Echo the HTC stuff, several of which have physical keyboards, also a few wildcards such as Google's new Android phone. Best sticking to a HTC/Windows Mobile 6 combo for the time being, unless you can afford to go down the blackberry route.

Ooops, yeah, that'd be door number 4 - Blackberry. Built in browser is bobbins, so it'll need Opera installing on it/similar, but if it's mainly e-mails + calls you want it for, can't fault it. (Well, apart from the "calls" bit - not THAT great as a phone!) The new "Blackberry Bold" is rather nice, mind...

Wait for the HTC Touch Pro, or scrap the keyboard idea and get a Touch Diamond/O2 Ignito.

I just swapped my orbit for one, and I fooking love it. Sooooo much better. A keyboard was on my list of wants, but the screen on the diamond is so much better at responding to fingers that I get on with the on screen one just fine.

I love my Diamond - my only complaints are the little bugs that irritate you. I had to remove the touch flow 3d as it interfered with the alarms etc.

It hangs a little too much and takes too much time to respond but potentially an excellent handset. Its one of those things you have to live with. Much like a Windows PC hanging - it just does.

I've got an Orange SPV M3100, which is the HTC TYTN. Great phone, good keyboard, but when I get an upgrade this month I'll swap it for the TYTN II, which is Win Mobile 6 rather than 5,and has built-in GPS too.

Another vote for HTC. I have a TTYN II. No problems.

Great for e-mail, browsing, sat nav, plus all the standard PDA stuff.

The one two things missing over a Blackberry as that on the Blackberry if I delete a mail I can also delete this from the server as well which I can't find an option for on the TTYN. Secondly I can't forward all sent items to my mail account either. Apart from that it is great.

Depends on what kind of mail you are running. If you are syncing with an exchange server then it should delete off both. Similarly if you run IMAP although I had problems with pocket outlook & IMAP not saving sent messages anywhere - they got sent but just vanished off both the mobile and the server.
Currently using a thing called Flexmail from www.webIS.net to access two exchange server based mail account using IMAP. Seems to be working fine (also seems to use less data than pocket outlook for some unknown reason).

To the OP, I have a TYTN II and it is great. However I put a custom ROM on it to get rid of the crap and keep it fast. I wasn't impressed with the original. Looking forward to upgrading in the new year and the shortlist at the moment is the X1, Touch Pro or the Touch HD.

I don't run an exchange server but I can configure my mail server to run IMAP so will try it. Thanks.

I use Flexmail for push mail using GMail. It is really good and so flexible.

Great device, but didn't quite work for me.

I have one spare you can have for cheap if you want. PM me.

Head over to XDA Developers for custom ROMs etc. Don't forget to use the search facility though as they can be stroppy buggers wink

I am using a Laurentis ROM with TouchFlo and it is great.

My TyTn II lasted a week and now sits in my desk drawer; it's just too heavy. I now have a Samsung SGH i780 which I love. It's light, slim, and pretty fast for a WM6 device. Battery life is okay, but Samsung supply two batteries and a handy charger so I always have a fully charged spare battery.

Wouldn't the much newer HTC Touch Pro be better? The HTC TYTN2 is pretty old now.
