I've got a new panasonic plasma tv (yes i know about the running in process but i was just checking out the quality of picture from the 360) and when i connect to my 360 through component using the hdtv cables plus the white and red sound cables i have no sound, any ideas why this could be?

Also, when it starts up the tv changes to 480p, any ideas why that could be?

Have you got the audio (red and white) cables in the correct audio inputs that are the ones to go with the component video input? There is a faint line around the 5 connectors as I remember.

Other than that, its in the menu somewhere where you can bind the inputs.

Resolution is being set by the XBox, change the output resolution on the system blade.

I would check the audio menu on your plasma and make sure you have the sound source set to component as most TVs nowadays allow you to choose seperate audio/video inputs.

ETA: Regarding the picture issue, make sure you have the resolution set in the XB360 settings, it does not automatically go to HD, you have to manually select it.

Remember on the older xboxes, theres a switch on the Picture/sound cable that says SD/HD (the part that plugs into the xbox)

Tried all this and still no luck. Cant get my head around it. If i was to buy the xbox360 vga cable that should make it work should it not?

Changed it tp 720p, cant believe how good it looks. Got so used to playing on a 10 year old sony on standard defenition that i didnt realise how good it could look.

No because VGA doesnt carry sound.

You just need to work out how to bind the inputs together.

Make sure that the switch on the hd lead is set to HD (xbox end) as this will cause no sound. Also when putting the cable in make sure you have not left the yellow/red/white cable is still not in the scart socket and is just plugged directly into the tv.

Also be aware that the yellow cable is not used on hd tvs.

Done all that?
