Please help a poor technaphobic PHeader , we recently bought our daughter a laptop , hooked it up wireless to the net , have Office etc , all worked fine. I looked at the screen yesterday only to see the it covered in little icons (as well as the usual recycle bin , e bay etc etc) She says she deleted the real player (god knows why) and then tried to re-instate it from the recycle bin , I'm guessing that instead of the one programme its fragmented into lots of smaller parts represented by the little gear icons , I don,t know how to take these off , can I delete each one then download realplayer again or am I at risk of deleting something else in the process , I,ve tried the go back to previous date programme but it hasn,t made any difference...help mucho appreciated.

Go into Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Remove Real Player.

Then open My Computer, navigate to c:\ -> Program Files -> Delete any Real-Player Directory if it is there.

Try and re-install real player again.

It is likely that she has just deleted the shortcut icon, and not the application.

Thanks , will that remove all the new random icons or do I have to do that manually ?

I reckon she's restored everything from the Recycle Bin. So any other icons that don't mean anything to you on the Desktop, bin them.*

  • Obviously at your own risk wink
