Get a network one.

That way you can connect it straight to the wireless router. It saves having to go through the one PC when a laptop wants to print.

Some have now combined a scanner, which is useful since the laser takes quite a bit of desk space.

One of the best money savers I bought in computing. I spent a fortune on inkjet cartridges just running cleaning routines because it always blocked. More ink was wasted than ever got used for printing. Since going laser that has been a thing of the past.

Look carefully at how many pages you're likely to get out of the toner carts - and a full set of each of CMYK can often be much more than the printer cost to buy in the first place.

That sounds a bit weird. If it's true (and stranger things do happen) buy a new one and put the old one on ebay?

The manufacturers aren't daft. Colour laser printers usually only come with the toner carts 1/3rd filled.

A bit like inkjet manufacturers then.

I'm pretty happy with my HP Color [sic] LaserJet 2600n. 4 separate toner cartidges, quick, good quality output, an additional paper input tray is available as an accessory. Unfortunately the Mac driver doesn't show toner levels though. The printed "Supplies Status Report", however, shows that after some reasonable home use, the black has 91% remaining (2216 pages), Yellow, Cyan and Magenta all also have 91% remaining (1716 pages). So I don't think it was too light on toner from new like some.

Yep, i sold my 18 month old laserjet for £50 as i could get a new CP3505 for LESS than a set of toners! Check this site out, they have some very good offers, i've just got a full set of toners half price.
