The OH gave me an unwanted upgrade phone, but it's on the 3 network and won't accept my Orange SIM.

Anyone know any on-line places to unlock a mobile?

Any local market will have someone doing it on a mobile phone accessory stand. They will do it for about £10, takes about 5-10mins.

Online places...not so sure about. I prefer to see the person involved when dealing with mobiles like this smile

I used www.fonefunshop.co.uk on my N95... Haven't received any phone calls from Nigerian 'businessmen' yet, so I assume they're kosher. Oh and, it did work too

I unlocked my LG Viewty from the 3 network last week via info I found on a website. If it's a Nokia, there's loads of info about. There's quite a lot of info here if you dig about in the two relevant threads.

Have you got your OH to ask 3 for the unlock code? If the phone os out of contract then they should release the code for free, and it will be a legit unlock, rather than letting your phone have a potentially dodgy reflash in some back street phone centre...

Vodafone don't charge for NUCs in most cirumstances, don't know if 3 would be the same if she rang them with the IMEI number... (stamped inside the battery case, or press *#06#)

3 Charge £15, but only if you've had the phone for at least 11 months.

I can't say too much, but you wouldn't necessarily have to ring the company the phone came from...

should only be about £10-£15 form your local indi phone dealer or market stall... but keep in mind that as soon as it becomes unlocked, it invalidates the warranty!!!
