I have been giving great thought to buying a PS3 lately but Mrs Ted say's that it will never be used and a waste of money. I beg to differ as i have played on one and think they are the nuts.

So who has one and are they as good as there are made out to be ? What games do you have/recommend as and when i get one. I also have 2 small children so family games maybe in order aswell

Cheers Ted

Shes right, it will never be used. Well that's mine anyway, you want a good games console, get an xbox 360, nothing compares online.

GTA 4
Gran Tourismo Prologue
Soccer Games (not my cup of tea but they look good)
First person Shooters (Again not my cup of teaby look good)

also

Blu Ray DVD player built in and the fact that you can use it as a web terminal (for facebook and the other girls web sites) should seal the deal.

Anyway do you really need to ask permission to buy this???

If all you want to do is play games, I'd say get an Xbox 360. I have both and to be honest the PS3 doesn't get a lot of use.

I am a big fan of the PS3, have loads of music, tv shows, movies on it. It is also linked via bluetooth to my computer. Games like call of duty and assasins creed are visually stunning and great fun. As for kids games i don't know... but there are loads to download. And thats all before you use the blue ray player, and any of the other hundreds of online and offline features....

Simply get one, more usefull than a wii and more usable than a 360

Ive got a ps3 and 360. Buy a 360 if you want to play games. Buy a PS3 if you want to watch bluray films.

each to their own... i have both, never use my xbox.... don't even bother with the wii unless it is just for children or adults with mental age of less than 10

Another great trick I use mine for is to stream movies onto the TV from my office PC which is set up as a media server. Means I can download or copy DVD movies onto the hard disc of the PC, then wirelessly stream them via the PS3 directly onto the hi-def TV connected to the PS3 in the lounge. Effectively I have a library of movies I can pick from at any time.

AS for games I would strongly recommend CAll of Duty 4, Motorstorm and Resistance Fall of man. All other games I've tried have been OK'ish with the exception of Haze, which was ste.

Lots of online content to download and play with, quite a few more family orientated cheap games there.

Also Singstar, Buzz etc...

OH, and it will upscale you normal DVDs to whatever your TV can handle, making even normal DVDs look superb.

Yea, but the ps3 has girlie wee controllers. Too lightweight and toy-like.

Xbox also does this, but if found that whatever format wont play on the xbox will play on the PS3, also whatever wont play on the PS3 plays on the xbox.

Also on November the 19th, the new xbox dashboard will be available, with the option to rip games to the HDD for silent gaming (still requires the disc for verification)

I've had a PS3 since May and think it's fantastic. I had the 360, but the PS3 was a gift so I sold the 360 and I must say I prefer the PS3. The 360 is great online, but the PS3 is much better as an entertainment unit.

I don't use a DVD player anymore, and I don't need a standalone Blu-Ray player. Playback quality of SD and HD content is very good, the built-in web browser is excellent (get a bluetooth keyboard/mouse for ease of use), and streaming music/video from the upstairs PC works well.

PS3 gets my vote. thumbup

PS3 has other capabilities beyond gaming - not only the Bluray and media streaming as has already been mentioned, but you can get a 2-figure addon that adds PVR capability too, and it can do slideshows/play music you've stored locally, etc etc .... oh and it has a web browser for light/occasional use ....
