Hi everyone,

Finally my Norton 360 software has run out. Im looking at different sorts but unsure which to go for?.
It's probably been discussed loads before but can anyone recomend something that works better than Norton. The I.T guy at a site i go to in london said about NOD?, but im sure where to find it

Any help will be appriciated.

Thanks in advance

Kaspersky has had some decent write-ups. Used it for 2 years with no problems...

Norton and AVG recent releases have been a bit CPU intensive IMO.

F-Secure goes nuts on your machine, NOD32 isn't too bad, or McAfee.

But for free, you can't beat AVG, just don't install/switch on all the extra monitoring that comes with v8.0.

Norton's bloatware, get rid!

Just bogs down PC's, AVG or Avast!

They are free, and easy to use.

My choice would be Avast!

Good for you Tuffer. smile

I have been using Norton for years, and never had a problem with it. It is just so easy to setup and then forget about, as it runs/updates/backup-online without any further input from me, and all for about a pound per week.

Removing Norton is the best thing you can do to speed up your PC, each release gets progressively worse every year.

AVG is free, but I've been playing with the Windows Onecare recently, and it seems pretty good. Doesn't popup continuously, and just gets on with it. (License covers 3 P.C's)

yes I've found this to be the best free one.

Funny actually, when I bought my last PC it came with Norton pre-installed. Left it until the trial expired, then loaded and ran AVG. AVG found over 100 items that Norton hadn't picked up! eek.

I tried Avast as well but it seems quite processor intensive and obtrusive which put me off a bit.

The problem with Norton products is they are like Toastie The Toaster, I exist to eliminate viruses therefore I am.

It's CPU intensive and a right tt to deinstall if it goes wrong yes

To wit:

Norton firewall breaks and you can't get on the internet. Norton insists on connecting to the net to deinstall confused Right, I'll go in in Safe Mode and deinstall. "This product cannot be uninstalled in Safe Mode" banghead

Norton's helpful solution is to go online and download the uninstaller... Err, the machine can't get online as it's own firewall is preventing it banghead

A rogue Norton installation once cost me four hours lost time on site and made me late for tea, I've never forgiven them for that punch

Everyone has a view on any product, cars, software, wine, take your pick. I am running the latest version of Norton 360 on my home PC and its pretty slick, then again I have also used McAfee in the past (when I worked for them) and various other vendors and have never had an issue, maybe its a user thing.
I also run the latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection at work (of course) 20,000 users and no issues.
Biased, no. I am just telling you my experience.
