I'm looking to buy a gen1 iphone, don't need the 3G and already have a very good contract - is ebay the only place that you can buy a gen1 iphone? Alternatively - if anyone has one to sell, please feel free to PM me biggrin

You won't have any problem - the lack of an unlock for 3G phones and the crazy cost of factory unlocked 3Gs (my friendly local phone shop manager says she can get them for £799 ex VAT...) means there is still demand for v1 iPhones because they work on all networks.

And once you've got a Wifi network, they're just as quick as the 3G. And they feel higher quality, and the battery lasts longer.

Might be worth having a look on Expansys for a 3G unlocked iPhone.

16Gb in Black for £609.99 inc VAT

8Gb in Black for £519.99 inc VAT

HTH

Yeah, I got a 16 GB factory unlocked on the 12th July for somewhere in between those two numbers wink

You don't *seriously* think I'd be behind the curve on this one do you? hehe

Expansys must be grey-marketing them in from Italy or HK, the only 'Apple-tolerated' reseller in the UK selling to mobile phone shops is charging a fortune... And > £500 is still, to most people, unacceptably expensive.

I love my crappy iPhone. It's so crap, its brilliant. I guess you prefer one of them Rim jobs though, right? Seems to be up your alley, so to speak.

The sales situation with iPhones is a bit weird currently, isn't it!? Im curious why folks would pay all that money for an unlocked 3G iPhone. You can get them for less at 02 of course, either contract, or PAYG. Is 02 really that bad that folks would pay the inflated prices for an unlocked one to use on any network? Serious question.. Just wondering like smile
My 16gb 2G iPhone has been great. I wouldn't say no to a new 3G one however, which I can get at a reasonable upgrade price. But I don't fancy chaining myself down to another 18 month contract. I'll go PAYG when the contracts up and stump up whatever the charge is at the time. But I have no beef with 02 myself, so will likely stay with them regardless of it being PAYG.

To55er.
Be constructive, explain what broke, what you did about it, and how the replacement is better.
Otherwise, shut the fk up!

Woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning did we?

The iPhone was on. However, the screen would not turn on. For example, when the phone would ring, I could not answer, due to not being able to touch the screen. Tried everything, including resetting.

I then phoned O2 who confirmed that they had infact never heard of such a situation before. After owning the phone for less than a month I cancelled.im afraid to say that my confidence in the product was shattered. I therefore cancelled the contact and when back to my existing one.

Completely agree with the above, by saying "They're crap, it broke", it doesn't mean anything - most things break at some point in their life!! Justify yourself (I know you have now and thank you), however, it seems like you were very unlucky with your particular iphone and had I been in the same position - I probably would have given O2 the chance to replace it with a new phone and see how I got on with that - I know of loads of people with iphones and none have had issues - hence why I want to give one a go....

O2's upgrade offer finished on the 15th October - meaning I'd have to buy out my existing contract to get a 3G. Well, that's not going to happen. frown

How amazingly short-sighted of them grumpy

Sorry arryb. Looks like I wont be selling my old iPhone now im afraid. Apparently they are crap! That chap up there says so, so it must be true. I think I must have imagined mine working perfectly for the last 7 months. I had no idea it was actually broken ages ago. LOLZ!!!! So before I burden anyone else with it, it's going in the bin, and will be buried under several kilo's of well soiled cat litter. I shall resort to my old faithful Nokia 702. Phew, just as well I kept it..
Laters chaps, im off to buy myself one of those excellently made French cars.

No.

I've been following your threads here;)

I know that as usual, you are just in front of the shockwave that's ahead of the cutting edge wink

But...

as I'd noticed that Expansys were flogging unlocked 3G iPhones in the UK without the need to travel to Italy, or buy one "out the back door" of a phone shop I thought it may be a useful tit-bit of information wink
