Anyone used Microsoft Word 2007 yet?

WHY did they seen the need to change everything?

IT was fine the way it was.

It now takes about three times as long to do the most basic of tasks.




(Mods - deliberately put this in P&P, and not computer stuff, as I want to see what average Joe thinks about it, rather than the experts that frequent the Computers forum)

It's what Microsoft calls progress, but to you and me it's moving things around.

It takes a lot of getting used to. I'm been using for since the beta and it still confuses me.

It's probably great for someone who's never used a computer before.

Yeah, I used it on my dad's laptop this weekend helping him out with some stuff. Took me about three times as long as it would normally have done.

By the end I was finding it not so bad. I think if you were fresh in to the system, never used one before, it would be far more intuative to use than any previous version. The problem is, since the layout and menu system had remained constant since Office 97, you are fighting a decade of using something else which now makes perfect sense and you know where everything is.

I guess the driving equivalent would be moving to the USA and having to drive a column shift, on the wrong side of the road and get used to being able to turn through red lights

Once you get used to it, the ribbon system works brilliantly and is actually very very good.

Like all change, it's hard to initially get used to but if you stay open minded, you can see the benefits in such a change.

Its an absolute pain in the arse for me. Divvys and Mailmerge documents just make it even worse. Some days it decides not to let you view queries to do mailmerges either.

I hated it when we first had it installed at work but after using it for a year or so i really like it. My girlfriend writes a lot of essays as well for uni and she loves the new version as it is very good at creating Bibliography sections and quote's.

I like it, but then I was already used to Office on Windows and Mac, so a new interface wasn't an issue.

As soon as you are used to it, you can get on pretty well with it. You can get classic menu addons for the Office suite though. (Useful for Excel 2007, its FAR better at processing formulas. It's proper multithreaded for starters)

Been using Office 2007 for 6+ months now. It does take some getting used to (but then what change doesn't?) but I think it's an improvement overall.

Wife lost a week after upgrading and then finding it absolutely crippled mail merging and also checks against preference services. You'd think at least that they's warn you it would fk you up big stylee.

Also the files don't seem to be automatically backwards compatible so the few people usng 2007 send attachment that can't be read by, well, the rest of the world.
