Computer Help...... Its so fu***ng slow!!

Right, im not the greatest on computers so bare with me.
Its suddenly become incredibly slow to load programs, even internet explorer is a struggle. Ive run a couple of antivirus scans and have come across nothing.
A freind has suggested that i may be runnning to many programs in the background from startup and told me to go into 'run'. And type something in to stop the programs. But i got lost at 'run'.
So could anybody tell me what i need to type..or suggest something else to try?? Thankyou

Try running spybot - it'll pick up stuff that isn't actually viruses but you still don't want running.

Try hitting CTRL-ALT-DEL to bring up the task manager (in windows XP). This lists everything that's running and shows how much processor power and memory each is using.

If you're as inexperienced as you sound it's probably better to find someone who knows what they're doing.
Rooting around in MSCONFIG isn't the best idea if you're not sure.
If you are confident, go to Start>Run and type 'regedit', then delete every other entry. This may or may not help.

If there is anything going over 100,000k type them up so we can see.
Also, could easily be sypware? Have you been going on porn? ( serious)

You can download this get rid of all the cookies and other downloaded stuff. There is also the option to reduce the number of programmes "running" in the back ground.

Had to format the laptop in the end as we just could not get rid of it.
As above, if you are not good with computers then find someone that is!

For getting rid of spyware as well as spybot try Mbam : http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
Seems to be about the best around at the moment and its free for cleanup, one spyware tool never gets them all.
