I've messed my PC and Wireless network up......

HELP!!!!

So got into my admin for the router and turned on WPA.

Which instantly disconnected my PC from the netowrk.

And I couldn't get back on.

I now can't connect wirelessly with anything.

Connected this laptop via the hardwire and tried to log into the admin page for the router.... which tells me that the device is managed by a different administrator. So i can't turn WPA back off!!!

What are you trying to log into it with, dan1981 and a password, or something else?

Reset to factory settings (tiny hole somewhere to push an unfolded paper clip through perhaps) and start all over again. Set WPA up using the hardwired connection.

Just the origional admin codes for the router.

Can you not connect a network cable between the PC and the router then login to the routers admin page.

Setup the router for the encryption level you want.

Then go to the PC wireless adpator uitlity set the same encryption as the router.

disconnect the cable an reboot. PC should find router.

Because you now need to enter the password you chose when you enabled encryption

You dont need to.

If you cant remember the WPA password, go to the device that was originally managing the router. Go to start/run and type command. When the window pops up type ipconfig /release

It didn't ask me to set a password up - it was just a drop down box to select wpa on or off.

Once i selected on it disconnected the PC.

I've not got a network cable long enough to run the router to the PC - i'll move the PC downstairs tomorrow and plug it into the router.

Thats should work and enable me to turn WPA back off.

If that doesnt' work i'llbe loking for the hard reset.

So, something has an IP address and it logged on as Admin. You need to release it's IP or log off if you want to use another machine to manage the router
