Has anyone jumped on the new Laptop craze and bought a new Netbook, IM very tempted to pick one of the new Samsungs up.

Always wanted a Picturebook after owning a Toshiba Libretto. I still curse the day I dropped it off the edge of the sofa and the screen cracked.

Ideal for when she comes to the UK for work. Small lighweight.

go for the samsung, very good machines.

regular laptops are quickly going out of fashion.

The samsung is an excellent wee laptop. Just remember though that the small laptops have many uses but can become tiresome if being used for serious work.

I bought one of the very first EEE machines about 14 months back. It's done everything it's supposed to do.

a little cheaper than the samsung and althoug a little less momory- she is unlikey to fill it up.. bigger screen is nice and its not a lot bigger overall. - batter power is a lot less though

Got one of the NC10 recently. Excellent little machine, much better than the Eee etc.

According to that article RRP is $900, so I'd wager £499 by the time it hits the UK. Screen is 8" 1600x768

Funnily enough I'm looking for a laptop for my mum who will use it for pretty much internet and wordprocessing use only - My budget is £300 ish which should get me something half decent (none of your Celeron rubbish, I might add) - anyone got any advice before I dip in to eBuyer?

Like they often don't have a built in Cd/DVD drive so loading software is a pain. You can buy an external version but that is another £50.

Hardly a pain though is it?

An 8gb stick is what? Less than a tenner?

most people buying these will most likely have a pc or access to one.

Just copy the stuff onto stick.

I'm about to buy a Thinkpad W500, a bit at the other end of the spectrum from a netbook. Had my existing Thinkpad for over 6 years and it's still very good. Reason for changing is that I need to run 1080p videos plus a predictive modeling application on 50GB of data.
