I've just been told by a local shop that they can do it for £20. ( after I posted the original question )

If it doesn't work, does it damage handset?

There's no software unlock, it would involve using a dodgy sim I believe, so no risk to the phone AFAIK.

I just got a factory unlocked one for around 550 pound, works a treat and is prob the best gadget i have bought, i live in dubai and got it here. I personally wouldn't want one of these cracked iphones few lads at work bought them and have had lots of grief, fair few on ebay now, for around same price.

Ooh I didn't know that.

If that's the case then I wouldn't pay £20 for it, as installing Cydia is very easy.

Only possible on the 2g phones at the moment. Can do it for free. Plenty of good online guides. Haven't heard many horror stories about it going wrong. Fairly straight forward and can be done in under 10 minutes.

Do not pay to have it done!

Easy to unlock. I've unlocked my iPhone 3G. Jailbreak your phone using Quickpwn, Then install Yellowsn0w using Cydia. Works a treat!

My iPhone 3G is an 02 PAYG 16GB model and it's running my Vodafone contract sim with no probems at all.

Nope, unlock perfectly possible.

No risk, reversible. About 30 mins if you're even remotely happy with computers and seems reliable (I'm running an AT&T handset on a private network).

Ive got a 2g iphone,could it work on orange using one of these jailbreak type programs? If so could someone advise procedure from the start for me please, thanks a lot the phone has no sim at present.
