trying to animate a little banner here...

couple of bts of faded text, one picture used and bang, 42kb already which is too big

anyone know how to keep file sizes down ?

If you animate bitmaps inside flash it will store a copy in each animated frame hence bumping the file size massively. Best thing to do is to trace the image (assuming it's relatively simple!) and store it as a vector. Or, and my memory is a little rusty here, I think you can change the JPEG compression settings which will reduce the file size at the expense of quality.

Don't use it myself, but do use shockwave. Presumably it uses "cast" members like shockwave(director). Can you use a smaller/lower colour image to start with? ie 256 colours not 8-bit? Import a gif not a jpeg/bmp/tiff (assuming quality won't be too bad).

Can i ask why you're wanting the size below 42kb? as that's bloody small as it is..

I did once see a really simple tutorial to do this within Dreamweaver (no need for Flash at all) if you are handy with that.

Would loading images from an alternative host be ok? could do that then have good quality images pulled in.

although I have specified the document size as only 60pixels high as per a standard banner, when i expand the flash player horizontally or play it directly in a browser URL window, I can see type and bitmap elements top and bottom but sort of off stage as it were ?
