I'm very rarely impressed by new software, but this is an incredible bit of kit.
Considering the size of the catalogue on there, the ability to start streaming a song and spitting it out of the speakers in less than a second is very, very clever.
It's great for discovering new bands at no cost or deciding if you like a band further than their single hit.

You have to listen to adverts though every now and then; not too bad to start with but they start to get to you after a while, not for PHer's favourite things;
Direct Gov encouraging you to claim benefits and The Energy Saving Trust is all they seem to be for.
The principle of the thing is great but at the moment the catalogue seems to be shrinking, not a service i'd pay for at the moment but the free versions pretty good considering its free.

I believe they had some international licensing rights to contend with so had to remove certain artists from certain locations.But I like the software, it's a step in the right direction. I'm amazed at the speed and quality, but it is quite a bandwidth hog as you'd expect.
I've been using it for the last month and am impressed. It's success would seem to be in the hands of the record labels, but despite the setback of losing some artists and songs, they've also been adding more from other labels at the same time, so I'd say it is still on the up curve.
Quality is good, using it in concert with Airfoil and an Airport Express produces perfectly adequate sound and allows it to be hooked up to a HiFi with a laptop. User Interface is good too.

it was about 2 months ago when someone hacked into their database, and copied all usernames & passwords & DOB that you registered withi've been using spotify for about a month now, and am very impressed. Really good for streaming music while your working at a desktop, and also good for listening to new albums before you buy them !

Have downloaded the files, installed them in the correct directories (and can see them from the Squeezecenter in plugins) - but it's not working yet. I shall keep playing....
