Joining short *.AVI together

Hello,

I am wanting to do probably one of the simplest of tasks.

I have several short, 2 minute, AVI movies from my camera.

What free program can jion them together for me?

I don't want a 'super-duper' program that is going to take me a week to learn how to do a small task.

When you download it, you need to append files. So you can open the files you need to join and then save as video file (or something similar).

Windows movie maker is incredibly easy to use.

Just a word of warning - if you join them just as they are, you will probably find that audio and video lose sync during playback of the second portion of the AVI. If the audio in the AVI is in something like variable MP3, it gets worse still.

This is because typically, in AVIs (or at least, many codecs which use the AVI extension), the number of video frames does not match the number of audio "frames", so the new audio just carries on from where the old stopped, which may be before or after the actual start point of the new video sequence.

Google "virtualdubmod merge avi" for tutorials on how to overcome this (it's not really a select file A, select file B, press the join button kind of procedure as it is with many other file formats).

Windows Movie Maker can only render, as far as I know, in WMV, and the options are limited. If you are happy with a WMV file in 640x480 though, it's fine.

And don't get VirtualDub, as stated above. Get VirtualDubMod instead, which is a greatly enhanced version of VirtualDub.

I didn't know that But for a camera video that's probably adequate.

Virtualdub, and virtualdubmod, don't load or install.

So they got binned.

tried windows movie maker, I can't see that working with *.avi.

So, any more I can try.

VirtualDub doesn't 'install' you just extract it to a place you can remember and run it.

Adobe Premiere does this, and IIRC you can download a free trial?
