.avi Film Files

Does anyone know how to convert .avi films into another format that lets you play it on a player/dvd that doesn't have .avi format.

DVD is .mpg files authored into a special format. You need an .mpg encoder to convert your .avi files & if you want them to play in your DVD recorder you'll also need DVD authoring software to create the required .VOB files within which the .mpg files sit.

There are loads of different converters & authoring packages out there.

Nero Recode will convert the avi into files for dvd playback on a standard dvd player. You will need to use Nero burning Rom (Video) to burn the files to DVD once converted.

Or if you want a simple, free package for the process, look up DVD Flick - I've been using it for encoding avi files, as well as videos taken from the cameras - excellent application.

Handbrake will probably do it, and it's free.

I use it for converting DVD rips to formats suitable for mobile devices (most recently a Blackberry Bold).

So to summarise there are loads of programs and everyone uses a different one.
What you have to do is try several and find the one YOU like.
