What shall I get for my next phone?

Considering i-phone, HTC touch - anything else out there that i should be considering??

And what is likely to be available in the next few weeks as new phones?

Heard rumours of a new Iphone?

Cheers

Dan

I got a Nokia 5800 a couple of days ago - very pleased with it so far.
Having said that, I haven't used either the iPhone or G1 so can't compare, but would say the Nokia is definitely worth considering.

iPhone is good, but battery life is woeful if you actually want to call people.

Yeah but why on earth would you want to call people with your phone?

Another vote for HTC Touch. I'm sure it's not as good as the iphone (so people keep telling me), but it's a damn site smaller than most other phones out there, if that matters to you, and the screen resolution is fantastic.

HTC Touch is a pain in the ass, slow software etc.

Palm Treo Pro runs Windows, does everything yet does it properly.

The new ones aren't so bad, they've had ROM upgrades and the slowness and battery life are both improved. I've currently got one, not a fan of texting on it though, fingers are too fat, and the stick doesn't lend itself to quick texting. I have to say the synapics on the iphone are hard to beat. Stick the touchscreen on a HTC and you've got an award winning phone!

Apple have just refreshed their desktop product line, and the current iPhone's not even a year old yet. I wouldn't expect anything before July.

I love my iPhone - battery life no problem as it can charge from my computer whilst i'm working. I don't think it's particularly worse than my N95.

Finally got the push email to work and it's brilliant. My favourite bit is where I can turn my work email off - Brilliant!!

The G1 development is coming along nicely although we are still waiting for some anticipated featured. Also thw followon, the magic, will be released on vodafone soon. I hope the 3rd party audio player, Diggin, shows up soon...

You may have another problem in that o2 don't do the Touch HD direct either.
I wanted to upgrade, stay on the same tarrif with o2 but gave up trying to get a good deal through 3rd party suppliers.
Went for this in the end http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/Brands/HTC/b50... ,pretty good deal

That is exactly what I'm going for. I've been an Orange customer for about 8 years and spent a fair whack when my girlfriend was in Poland. Never again, they want £300 from me as an upgrade.

What do you want to use it for anyway? Different smartphones have different strengths.
