I have Virgin Broadband and pay for the 20meg link. Recently it seems to have really deteriorated, and much of the time I seem to get around 3meg. Tonight it seems to be about 600k if I am lucky.

Occasionally, if I am home during the day I get 16meg.

Is this due to their restricting speed at various times? If so, it is getting ridiculous. They are apparently rolling out 50meg across the country - so I guess that will mean about 6meg if I am lucky...

Anyone else finding this?

They only restrict your speed if you have been downloading loads.

Is your network secure?

Yes - I think so.

I generally think I don't download that much.

What is considered a lot these days?

Is that not because more people are using it on a night?

During the day, everyone is at work so there will only be you and few others in your area using it.

I'm sure half the time they do it, it's the contention ratio being whacked up and the whole lot throttled

I'd say between 500gb and 1tb a month is considered alot these days.

Not 100% sure on what is average, but i know people that can easily download 2/3tb a month, others can download less than 1gb. I think you can get a warning if you exceed the *unlimited download limit*

Its more likely to be a bandwidth issue at peak times IMO.

How are you determining the throughput?

Pretty much full rate on a wired connection. I'd forgotten that the surround system running on the Xbox has wireless rear speakers running on 2.4Ghz, and it does bad things to my 802.11 connection...

Modem is a couple of years old I guess - seems to be working fine though. It is the new compact type.

Which area of Luton are you?

Hmm... I'm over the airport side.

I am not convinced that Virgin's broadband to the area has been much cop for a while now.

Are you currently getting only 2meg? Do you have the 20meg link?
