Ok, so I'm aware of the "handbags at dawn" situation with Flash. I have personal experience of how too many pictures in a thread will send Safari off in a huff. I have also noticed that when typing in a topic entry like this it will all be erased by switching to a new browser window and then back again. F.U.N.

Here appears to be a new 'limitation'... If one of you kind souls can show me a solution I'd be hugely grateful! I get sent yet another link to an amusing video or film preview and end up at a download site asking me to install the XviD codec. Hmmm..... Isn't that a pretty widely used encoder for vid and films? Would be handy to have that as a plugin for Safari

What say the experts out there - dream on or is there an app I've missed? I have searched apps and the web but it is quite a large place biggrin

Thanks once again for any help smile

Andy

One other issue I found when replying to a thread on PH and quoting someone I can't scroll down to enter text. When I try to it moved the whole page not just the dialog box.

Oh wait maybe that's on the iPhone only either way total PITA

if it wont run a video as standard, there's nothing you can do to fix it.

Doesn't a 2 finger scroll do this? Could be wrong BTW

Excellent!!! VLC for iphone! This must have only just come out as I only seached for it at the weekend!

Just downloaded it, and the only drawback seems to be that you have to use Itunes to add the files frown

Xvid is a proprietary format that requires a specific plugin to work on any platform. In other words, although it is regularly used for large video files, it is not 'standard'. The iPad will support HTML5 video but does not yet support the installation of third party plugins for Safari.

Hmmmmm... Seems like I'm on a role. Despite having gigs of free space I can't download torrent files to my iPad either frown Anyone know to the contrary?

What are you using to download torrent files?

The main issue is not being able to write to the file system unless going via an approved route (ie AppStore, iTunes etc).. I'm guessing a jailbreak may get you where you want to be, but have not done that to mine yet, so can't say it with any conviction..

Haven't found an app written to download to the iPad without actually downloading to another machine and then syncing. Would rather keep the iPad standard for now... C'mon app developers!

I have downloaded torrent files on my ipad... Using piratebay or demonoid, it can download the file to airsharing, where I just copy it to the appropriate folder on my mac. I have downloaded other files, such as pdf's, etc, to pages, or airsharing as well.

Sounds like an iPad is just not for you Stoat.
Why didnt you just buy a notebook? Was it just the cool factor?

Thr cool factor? Nope

It suits my needs fine apart from these couple of issue. They'll either get addressed by apps inside Apple's store or they won't. If I'm left no choice I'll jailbreah my iPad so it can fulfill its potential
