On a PC rather than phone I presume. Answer is Firefox (make sure you download the English (British) version) and uBlock Origin

I don't want to change the browser thank you, just stop the adverts.
Stopping the ads on IE costs money IIRC.And I wouldn't trust them to provide ad blocking (other than that which suits them).
Someone may have more experience on this point.
Another alternative to block many ads, is to extend your hosts file to include all the entries you want to block (around 16,000 lines).
MVPS Hosts

I'm currently using the Microsoft Edge browser. However, having done a quick Google search I fear it is not possible to block ads in this. Booo.
Guess I will have to start using something else then....
Adblock is avaible for Edge https://adblockplus.org/en/edgeGuess I will have to start using something else then....

Yes this^^^ , the Hosts file is what I ended up doing. I use a utility app called hostsman free from here http://www.abelhadigital.com/hostsmanMVPS Hosts
The tool downloads updates from mvps and other sources to the hosts file. Has a handy on/off button should you need to quickly revert to default hosts file. This route stops most ads, trackers etc

Guess again. It's super helpful.OP,
I am letting others check out Anniversary edition first, but if you have taken that plunge you should have the link for Edge.
If you just want "no ads now" you can use IE with a free tracking protection list. In IE, go here:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/iegallery
and scroll down to EasyList Standard, and click Add.
One download away is Chrome, where uBlock Origin seems the favourite.
Go to settings -> system -> about
your Windows version number should be 1607 and the OS build should be 14393.xxx for the anniversary update (I think 14393.82 is latest)
Open edge and click on the ellipses just below the Close window button to open the settings panel.
Third from bottom should be "Extension" - click that
click "Get extensions from the store" - should open the store
Edge extensions should be shown with adblock and adblock Plus.
I personally use plus, which also seems to have a higher rating.
When you go to the adblock/plus page hit the "free" button and follow instructions.

It's been a long time since I bothered looking.

Version shows as 1511 I'm afraid.
that's Threshold 2 (last November update) and the reason you can't get extensions.Go to settings -> update and check for updates.
If that doesn't work have a google for forcing windows updates. There is a softwareUpdate (or similar) directory somewhere that you can delete which will force a better update check. (don't delete anything until you've verified that via the internet).
Then you should have access to the extensions
