Super cheap but reliable printer needed.

Pc World have a HP Deskjet D1460 Inkjet Printer for £29.99, or £24.99 if you reserve it on-line and collect in store.
HP not the cheapest cartridges, but compatibles aren't too bad.
Far less chance of getting any clogging issues with an HP, and if your Gran is just printing letters etc there may be long periods where no printing occurs.
If she is not printing photos etc, the cartridges will last a long time anyway.

eta - do NOT buy any extra cartridges from PC World, search online - you can get Originals for half the price they charge.

I'd second the HP Deskjet recommendation. Dad's lasted 9 years before giving up the ghost and mine is heading for 7 or 8 years with no problems.
I run my HP deskjet in a default "draft" mode, it uses much less ink and produces perfectly good prints. I have mine set to default to Black rather than colour which works for me but when I set Dad's up that way it confused him as he couldn't ever remember how to tell it to print colour!!

Another thought, some of the all in one's are now very cheap see http://www.pcwb.com/catalogue/item/A0288624 (just an example you might get cheaper/better) we've replaced Dad's deskjet with one of these and he uses the copy function quite a lot rather than have to go somewhere to get a photocopy of things he needs to send off etc. These are more expensive than the straight deskjets but the scan/copy facility is very useful.
