Show off your smartphone homescreen
Discussion
So, as we have this for the desktop, and lots of people actually use their smartphone more than their computer, maybe it was a good idea to give this a go.
I'll get started:
The wallpaper is a rotating globe btw (Earth HD), also rotates when you go to the left/right.
Edit: Please post the used widgets/wallpaper/icon theme/launcher so others can copy your fine work .

though the beauty with Nova (or similar) is if you find new icon packs its so quick and easy to apply new ones!
How does it work though? Maybe because my phone is in dutch, but it doesn't apply them automatically.Edit: Stupid me, just needed a reboot

Yes they are VERY weather resistant. My first went though a 65 degree wash in my MTB shorts and still works although it killed the camera. The second (one above) has just survived being left to soak in my MTB shorts overnight without a problem. They really are indestructible little things, and best of all get great reception when in the middle of nowhere; unlike most smart phones.
Sorry for the O/T OP.
No problem, I appreciate phones like that as well . Besides, looks like they are almost as customisable as the iPhone looking at this thread .Yes they are VERY weather resistant. Although there is an iPhone shot on page 1 that is pretty heavily customised, and looks very nice indeed.
That said though, when I used to have the iPhone (3G and then a 4), Jailbreaking it used to come with performance / stability compromises, noticeably less smooth and quick. I tried customising mine, and for the most part succeeded but it was a pain. Maybe things are better now?
Although with an Android you don't actually need to root (read Jailbreak) to give you a very different look, although its easier if you do and comes with no real performance penalty.

iPhone 4s with HTC Animated HD Weather, just because that's the only thing Android I like.
That's crass, so you don't care for the new notification system in iOS, or free Navigation? ArsE92 said:
Looks great, though the "Metrostation" icon set would really finish the "clean" look imho!https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.u...

This thread does highlight just how badly iOS needs a serious refresh...it looks much the same as it did five years ago. Even my iPhone loving friends are starting to express their displeasure at how little each generation moves things along.
Hmm, the "here it is, take it like that, it works reasonably well like this" approach does work for a lot of people, but if you're used to the likes of Android or even WinMo , iOS gets really frustrating. This thread highlights that if you want to do a little more than changing your desktop background, some serious hacking is required. It took hackers over 3 months to provide a jailbreak for iOS 5 on the 4S.
Anyway, since this thread I've been experimenting with some new icons, love the look of the DCikonZ .

I have to agree.
I think Apple would win back quite a few people who have changed their phones due to iOS6/iPhone 5, if they would allow customisation of the iphone.
Not only that it's a new revenue stream. They could sell themes, I just don't think they want to allow people to do it as it takes a fair amount of knowledge.
I remember going from 4.2.1 > 5.0.1 and they altered some of the names by 1 Letter/number/symbol meaning you had to root around and locate the standard icons to be able to replace them because you needed to alter the name/folder or even the method used to reskin
Well, I'm a techie and I love to play with my phone. Though I never jailbroke my iPhone nor rooted my Android, I just couldn't justify the stability trade-off, or just be bothered on the whole. I looked into it for "theming" my iPhone but it looked like too big a bother compared to the gains.I think Apple would win back quite a few people who have changed their phones due to iOS6/iPhone 5, if they would allow customisation of the iphone.

At the time though, iOS looked OK. When I've got an iPhone in my hands now it actually looks pretty dated. The iPhone 5 fixes this a bit by the taller (widescreen) screen, but it still looks and feels dated compared to high-end android devices.
It's not all fun and games on android either though, I've got this icon pack that I want to try out but it won't auto-apply and I can't be bothered to change app-by-app

Cheers Z. Just installed Metrostation icon set but it looks like you have to manually set each icon? Screw that.
I change my homescreen so often anyway.
Read my post above, was just comming to the same conclusion, shame, as most icon packs auto-apply, MetroStation apparently doesn't .I change my homescreen so often anyway.

I won't disagree, I get bored of things very easily, but the fact is functionally it works well and it's simple.
One thing that threads like this re-inforce for me is that many peoples ideas of aesthetics and useability are not particularly good - I mean most of the Android personalisations that people do is pretty horrible, definitely a personal tastes thing.
Hmm, aesthetics is one thing (and very personal), but how would you define "usability"? What screen on here has worse "usability" than, for example, the iPhone? One thing that threads like this re-inforce for me is that many peoples ideas of aesthetics and useability are not particularly good - I mean most of the Android personalisations that people do is pretty horrible, definitely a personal tastes thing.
As for "horrible", I wouldn't say any on here are particularly horrible, though most are just personal. Anyway, I like this thread as it has shown me and teached me some new things I could do .

It is just personal taste in most cases, but I admit, I have some weird OCD thing going on with things like phone homescreens and computer desktops.... if they don't look pretty and they aren't in some ways usable then it really, REALLY grinds my teeth, and I must admit, a lot of the ones shown here (no offence) are NOT a pretty sight... but if it works for them, who am I to criticise
Anyway I've pretty much finished mine, for now, I'll make tweaks here and there, but ultimately, I have the layout and design I like.... I'll try and get some refreshed screenshots up...

I have to admit, yours looks very clean and nice, but for me, I just like to put more on one screen so that I have less screens, it's a matter of preference.
The keywords here are "choice" and "personalisations".
