I bought my laptop in 2005, from Comet. With it, I bought their Total Product Cover, which expires in 2010 - for once I did right, I think......

Today, I have managed to drop a pint glass of coke on it, the glass slipped and smashed on the table cry and it has gone boom. It has gone all over the keyboard and inside it through the 'fan holes' at the back and underneath frown I'm just pleased that it was running on the battery at the time smile

The policy certificate states :-

Breakdown - we will pay the cost of repairing, or is a repair is uneconomical, replacing the insured product - even if the breakdown occurs as a result of accidental damage.

What is not covered :-
This policy does not cover breakdown or accidental damage due to
neglet, wilful abuse or misuse.

Of course, they are closed.

Luckily, everything is backed up onto the server biggrin

So, what is the betting folks, will they replace it? Or will I have to go through my Home Contents insurance?

Of course it is only for home use!!!

I'll ring them in the morning then - if they say no, I'll ring my Contents people, would prefer to not claim on my Home insurance tho (although it is covered on that smile) frown

Nope 'cos it's accidental damage.

Home contents is the way to go provided you have accidental damage cover. If not....
Yep 'cos it's accidental damage.

Read the scheme details here:

Funnily enough, my policy is with a different company to the one featured there - and has less clauses biggrin

Stand your ground, you should be fine.

If not, threaten to take the case to Which / FSA etc - works wonders.
Cheers biggrin

You willfully bought a glass of coke near to the the laptop. You knew coke and electronics dont mix.
If you read the manual which came with the laptop I can almost gurantee somwhere it will say something like "keep liquids away from your computer as spills may damge it". You neglected to follow the instructions.
You're good smile Are you in insurance?

The OP wasn't planning on introducing the Coke to the Electronics. The action that resulting in the two meeting was unintentional, it was an accident.

Had the unplanned incident not occurred then the two would never had met.

Following your logic, there is no such thing as accidental damage as you should always take the necessary precaution such that there can be no accident.
biggrin

Well, Comet won't play ball with me frown

But more because they didn't collect all the premium payments rolleyes, than a who is at fault dispute smile

Evidently they collected 3 of 4 payments, yet the policy says 3 payments, and they don't chase you, just lapse the policy - I wonder how many others have been caught out like that?

Still, it can be claimed on my Home insurance and they have got someone getting in touch with me in the next 2 days. They asked if I thought it could be repaired and I said not a chance - it went bang usually not a good sign that hehe

It was my own fault I fear, I set up a standing order for 3 payments, as per the instructions, IF i had read it properly, and worked out the cost, I'd have seen that there should have been 4 frown

Not to worry, they'd not have paid out anyway, he told me that much laugh
