OH MY GOD, B.T Broadband are....
Discussion
...so bad, it is unbelievable. I am convinced I am being used as an experiment and they've set cameras up in my house to film how I react!
2 weeks I've not had broadband working.
BT have told me on 4 seperate occassions that they'll phone me back. They haven't.
I've tried to cancel my contract. They have twice tried to put me off doing this by saying if I cancel, I can't connect to a different broadband service for 3 or 4 weeks????
They've sent me an 'upgrade' disc as they told me I've been upgraded to 2meg F.O.C. This hasn't worked.
They are NOT interested in looking after my interests. This is clear from the lack of communication and effort.
I am paying a monthly fee to these bastards and they are leaving me in the dark with no internet.
Questions:
1) I managed to obtain a migration code after begging them to set me free. Can I transfer to another company or do I have to wait for weeks on end for BT to finally unlock the dungeon they are currently holding me in?
2) I am on a year contract with BT until October. I obviously don't want to pay them any more money. They say I will have to pay until October, regardless. Whats the best thing to do here?
- The problem being; I am supposed to have an official 'problem unresolved' letter from BT to cancel my policy. How can I get one of these letters when the t
ts can't even be bothered to telephone me?
Apart from that, I'm fine.
ETA - I'm typing this at my mums house. As a result, I will not be able to revisit this thread until later today. Cheers, Lazy.

Yes, you give that code to whoever you choose as your new ISP and they'll sort it out from there. One day it'll just change from being BT Broadband to your new supplier. DO NOT CANCEL your BT Broadband subscription before this happens or they'll cancel the ADSL capability on your line and you'll have to get it setup again (about 2 weeks, unless it screws up and claims you already have ADSL when its been disabled in which case much longer). Of course changing ISP won't help if your problem is with the exchange, your phone line or your ADSL kit, but there are better, cheaper providers out there.
Don't know about your second question, but I expect you could argue that you've not been receiving the service you've paid for to get out of paying until October.

After searching on the Computers and Stuff threads, here on PH, I've located the problem.
However, this does not mean my anger is eased. I know there is a name and shame policy on here but I figure this...
BT are so huge, they can take my smallfry comments on the chin and not be affected. They are not excused for there absolutely horrendous customer service.

Take solace in the fact that they cannot possibly be worse than NTL, whose all encompassing incompetence has to be experienced to be believed.
I mean, you've only been without internet for 2 weeks? That's nothing. Over a month with NTL. Billing, I wouldn't begin to bore everyone, but after 6 months, around 20 hours on the phone to them, I think, only think mind, NTL may have got it right. As for paying a set amount monthly. They took over £100 more than they should on our first payment!

They have been upgrading everyone free of charge so this isn't a special thing they have done for you. Everyone who has the upgrade will get a speed up to 2MB but if their exchange can't handle it they will get a speed as close to (between 1mb and 2mb) as possible.
Funny really, had BT broadband for the last 3 years and it's been brilliant. Two different homes during the time, no problems moving or on initial setup and not noticed any downtime...
I guess that if you ask you'll find happy and unhappy customers with all the suppliers..
Does this thread not fall foul of the "nameing and shameing" rules?

Like iaint, I too have ADLS via BT, since day 1 (technically).
And I've never ever had a problem with them at all in 3+ years.
The only irritations I do have are:
1. They've given me the 2MB free upgrade option - but the exchange can't handle it, so stuck on 1MB
2. They are expensive compared to everyone else - and I'm so tempted to move - but afraid that my days of no-grief will turn.

Well since the mods are ignoring this one
I'm not ignoring it, BT are fair game as far as I'm concerned. They only do things when you complain or make a noise. The more noise the better.
Quite.

Thanks for leaving the thread open. Its important that people know where there is abismal service, which costs the likes of you and me hundreds of pounds every year.
If it was a small shop or company just setting up, I could understand but BT are quite big!

I realise this Darren.
I only mentioned it because it coincided with the internet ceasing to work.
It may be a useful tool to me. If they won't cancel my payments until October, I can always argue that they broke their contract. After all, the one I signed up for isn't the one I'm on now as they upgraded it without asking me. ?

BT put a PSTN cease on my line for no good reason (they coud/would not tell me why) and Pipex (my ISP) could not stop it
2 weeks without broadband
Happens all the time, ISP can't do anything, infact normally the only time anybody finds out is when you call up to find your BB is turned off.... in which case its the norm to question me, shout at me, demand a reason.. despite being told its bt that done it, shout when i cant give a reason despite me telling you BT arent allowed to tell us, shout some more when i say itll be 10-14 days then go off in a huff to shout at BT.
Who as you found out can't do anything about it anyway ... lol
It is usually becaus eof billing problems, missed bill, change of details etc... switching line to someone elses name .. that kinda thing.
Don't hold back - say what you really mean. :-)
They aren't (BT) any better in the corporate field either, I have been on the end of their incompetence too, a Multi £million contract apparently entitles us to expect an ADSL line and 2 ISDN2 backup lines in mid July when it was scheduled for the end of March. I reckon they have cost us at least £10k of lost productivity and £5k in bonuses. To say I'm annoyed is probably to understate the situation.
