Had the mesh recall carried out by mercedes on friday, seems worth having done as my oil coolers were starting to take a few knocks, these additional overlaid plastic mesh grills that sit tight against radiators look fine, in fact better i think as it takes away the bright appearance of the silver radiators.

Didnt take a before but it looks very oem and now better protected, a holed radiator would mean youre not going anywhere..

Is that on specific years/ models?

2018 > i think, revised grille and intakes up front, if you look at your lower intakes i think the mesh is already there?

Was this carried out free of charge/is it an official recall? I'm about to buy an early 2018 GTR and have realised it doesn't have these and just wondering if I'll be able to get Mercedes to fit them if I buy it.

Yes, foc, code 4988 is the recall, i think they're actually manufactured by renntech from what someone on mbworld were saying, but mercedes source and install them free.

Don't know the car but it looks good - I love solar beam - a very expensive option. Good price as well, it's an early 16 plate so check the propshaft has been recalled (15-early 16 MY)

That has made me think, it’s to low I feel and I love the car, but may need something bigger.

Is there a specialist that buys these?

I bought mine from John Holland in Sheffield. They've also recently sold a 2016 with 1500 miles on for more than you've been offered part ex, they also sell very quickly. Might be worth a call especially if they have something you may be interested in.

Just an update on this one...

Looks like it may be going to a buyer in China.

I didn't get a chance to look at it but a mate looked today and said it was a real minter - underside and all. 12k miles and all the nice bits

Thanks @pvapour - got an 18 plate GTR in September and got the mesh modification done foc by my local Mercedes dealer

That solar beam looks great, in i’m NI and I bought my 911 GTS (that i part exchanged for the GTR) from that dealer. Great to deal with.

I'll probably be part-axing mine next year as well. Either AMG GTR or McLaren route

exiting.... maybe I also go for a AMG GT-R in 2021 but still very pricy in NL with the high C02 tax per gram...
and have to sell my other car first.
Maybe I wait a extra year till in 2022 for the AMG GT-R, could save me 20-30k depreciating they are still pretty new and cause of the high tax and extra tax Co2 per gram a year in NL can save a lot.

If I had to choose between a McLaren or a AMG GT-R , I still would choose the AMG GT-R (as my only car that is) it fits better in present days with a lot traffic etc, you don't need to race/wring it to get the fun part.

This is a very interesting thread as I’ve just sold my R35 GTR, Clio V6, 996 C4S and hopefully soon my Maserati 4200 and I was set on consolidating to a McLaren 570 or F430 but these AMG GTs look very tempting.. . I’m an ex TVR owner / VXR8 owner and love a rumbling V8 - but hate depreciation and these seem to holding up quite well now.
I’ve only just started looking (upto about £75k - so a prefacelift) but it looks a bit of a minefield out there with all the options - is there a “must have” option ? I think it would have to be the “S” but is Premium a must have ? The edition 1 look special with that roof, but probably going to struggle to find one ...

yeah, sadly prices are still very high also for a AMG GTR, they are even higher now then 6-12 months ago...

I was hoping for another 20-30k pricedrop, but no...they went up a bit grrrr... they must be good I guess.

so, I guess I have to change my planes for this year at least (ofcourse first selling my Z3 s65) and maybe go for a AM Vantage V12 manual, those are still stabel for now (same prices as 6-12 months ago) and I guess they will creep up in a year or 2, because rare and special, big V12 with manual in small coupe.

otherwise a Wiesmann MF4 GT or the better drivers car Wiesmann MF3 would also be fine, but those prices are still mad... silly prices still.

back in 2013-2014 you could make very good car deals, then after that a lot went up again.

also the AMG GTS edition 1 (the real ones with also edition 1 in the steering wheel graved) also went up a bit...

FWIW I have a 2017 GTS with 15700 miles in Solarbeam with Pano roof. Full MB service history and the Service B just carried out. Extended MB warranty. Been offered £67130 from WBAC and £67k as a trade in. So retail I guess will be around the £71k?

The Solarbeam is a marmite colour but they are few and far between.
