Because people think they have leather and they don't as the option went the same time as the option for different leather colours. I'm fortunate mine was ordered with Nappa just unfortunately black as it was AMG line premium plus on a very early 17 just as they removed all the options

Are you saying that the only 'genuine' leather that MB now offer, in any vehicle, is Nappa? If so, that's a backward step IMHO.

I haven't looked recently but for a very long time they've offered Artico 'leather' (ie a plastic, pvc-type material which is not actually leather), genuine leather and a more expensive, softer, Nappa leather. I have had several MB 'salespeople' telling me that Artico is leather and they seemed quite offended, and at least one genuinely surprised, when I corrected them.

One of mine is now a couple of years old and has genuine, proper, real leather, but it's not Nappa.

People mention alcantara, which is simply a brand name of a synthetic material, MB's version being Dinamica.

The much older MB Tex was a much better, stronger and longer lasting material than Artico.

As far as I'm aware on the not s class or proper Amg it now all vegan leather
The 214 may now be different but the 213 was so
