M113 V8 hot start woes
Discussion
The dutch guy on You tube 'diagnose dan' had a Merc that wouldn't crank when hot and it was an ECU issue.

in the early days older cars with bobine and sort, it often was a bobine, its something electronic, so say in more modern cars could be such electronic switch in or around the fuse box or how you call that.
such switches can get old and then burn in, when hot they can connect, burn in and stick, when getting cold they get loose and work again.
hard to explain with only simple known words in Englisch, well also in Dutch with those strange names :-)

Hello
I have just bought a MB with a m113 engine. its a 1999 G500
I am currently having the same issuses as stated in this thread.
Car starts fine when cold, wont crank when hot. Let it cool off, starts as normal.
Battery has been swapped, it has a healthy 12.6 volt.
Battery located in trunk, so its nice and cold
New earth/negative cables
Alternator is charging 13,9 volts when running
Changed Startermotor and relay to a new one.
Problem still continues
Tried jumping car when hot, stil no sufficient crank.
Only way it starts on me when hot, is if i spray water directly on the starter to cool it down. then it fires right up as if everything is normal. Or i leave it for an hour to cool of naturaly
I am at this point kind of lost, will try mounting an extra heatshield.
Any help or recomedations whould be apprechiated

had this on my old xr2i 16V.
installed some shielding between the two as well as a by pass fan switch
cured the problem.
I wrote about my experiences of this problem elsewhere on here, but I had the same problem described.
Bought a new battery, problem solved...
However, the problem slowly came back again about 6 months later.
So...
It may have been several things;
Battery kaput giving me original symptoms of failing Crank/Camshaft Position Sensor (CPS).
Then CPS actually began to fail...
I'll never know as sold the car, but I'd start with a new battery to rule that out. Having a fully charged but old battery isn't a gaurantee of the battery being healthy.
