Removing the resonators makes a nice subtle difference, it is very very slightly more droney. But it is not really noticable, drone wise. It seems to burble a bit more, more throaty.
Having done it to my personal car id recommend it. But leave the x pipe, it serves a purpose.
Thanks for the advice Shane, the "tech" doing mine said the same thing , he`s a good local indie who worked on my

Griffiths exhaust a while ago.
All done, completed the "resonator delete" Monday evening, it`s a straightforward job, the resonator is replaced with a straight pipe 13.5 inches long.

I`ll be back here to describe the results and more details of the actual job at a later date.
Mikial,

Look forward to the details as it "appears" to be straight forward and it's something I want to do on my 55 once I get it.

Jules.
Firstly unclamp exhaust pipe aft of resonators (from the rear) The pipes are not sleeved but bell housed, bolts are probably rusted but are not captive so can be cut to remove. Once clamps are removed "wiggle " the whole assmbly free. (there are two struts you`ll see with star bolts that have to be removed, easily done.) Cut resonators free from pipes , reclamp o/e cut pipe , to replace the distance used up by discarded resonaters, I used a straight pipe , outside diameter 2 and 5 eights , inside diameter 2 and 3 eights and 13.5 long that I could sleeve into original s/s pipe and the tips which you retain to look stock. We then tacked the new pipe into position , slipped the o/e tips onto the opposite end and tacked again, removed the new assembly and welded permanently. The only tricky bit happens now ( 4/10 tricky ) you must fabricate a new "Z" shapped bracket that you weld in situ onto the new pipe to enable the exhaust to use the original hanging rubber grommit just aft of the tips. Time taken form start to finish ? Took us 3.5 hours , but that included standing about drinking coffee and having a yowl about the old days, both the welder (Paul Aldridge) and I had Tigers , his was a 289 ci mine a 260. I reckon just over 2 hours should be enough.

Unfortunatley, on the way there, I got the ABC GO TO THE WORKSHOP warning so I was reluctant to explore any performance save quick dab in second , my opinion .... A definite improvment on the original .

Yes Chris, the "ABC GO to Workshop " warning was , thankfully, nothing more than a leaking temperature sensor situated in the pump . This was replaced.

The exhaust mod is a low cost option to extract a more suitable note, with this in mind it is a success, the one negative is a slight drone at low revs which is quickly banished as the revs rise, perhaps my tinnitus makes it worse than it actualy is.
I did the mod knowing that if I found it was not to my liking I would replace the exhaust with an Eisemann unit.

Yesterday at just above the legal limit in third I experienced a power drop, it felt like the ecu had engaged a limp home mode . Soon after wards everything went back to normal but the problem persists. I`m thinking this is the cold air intercooler pump misbehaving.

Hi guys,

I have E55 I have just installed kleemann K1, now after a bit more sound from the exhaust, SL55 like would be perfect...

Advice from members that have done exhaust mods on the E55 would be appreciated.
