Thanks folks

Hi Mike, trust all is well.

Assuming you have KE Jetronic fuel injection and the vehicle is an early one then:

The idle adjustment screw is accessible via a recess in the underside of the air filter just above the rocker cover. The best time to check it is when the engine has just reached operating temperature having started from cold, not after a long drive, and just before the aux fan cuts in.

Later models have a rotary idle actuator which controls idle speed electronically. Needs specialist injection equipment apparently.

If it's got carbs then only the idle on stromberg carbs can be adjusted, the Pierburg carbs have electronic control for the idle which is not adjustable.

The carb adjustment screws are two screws behind the throttle lever. The inner one adjusts the fast idle , the outer the idle speed.

Kind Regards

Nigel

Hi Nigel,
All fine here, thanks, hope all is well with you too.

I've had a fiddle, and it appears to be non adjustable, so that was that, however, I've squirted a can of carb cleaner down it's throat which seems to have done the job. I guess 212,000 miles of crap took their toll and judging by the smoke that came out of it's tail end!!!

Still, it's a good old thing. I haven't had much luck with cars recently so it's back to hit it with a big hammer engineering into another Merc estate!

Regards,
Mike
