The engine runs smoothly and gets the best mpg when water temp reaches 8o deg. In summer okay but hardly seems to warm up in winter sitting well below 80 degs

Question : Is there anything I can fit or adjust to help to warm engine up quicker and keep at higher temp ie 80 degs

Have same problem on my C-220 diesel. The garage said not to bother, but it peeves me because it drinks a lot more when running cold. Somebody said about thermostat getting old. I gather it might be electronic/solinoid thermostat.
Don't yet know how to fix it.

Hi,

I had the same problem last year with my dads E220 CDi, I replaced the thermostat (quite easy to do actually and not very expensive) and all became fine.

The mpg improved from 37mpg to 50+mpg and the heaters started to blow warm air!!!

I suggest getting it sorted before the winter.
