I've done 22K in my Brera 2.4 now and mostly average about 34mpg. While this is 5-6mpg lower than the, (lets face it always un-realistic), manufacturer claims and a similar amount lower than the 1.9JTD GT I ran before it I think it's reasonable. Given that it's a 0.5ltr larger engine with 50bhp more, placed in a more solidly built, better equipped car I think it's to be expected!
I can easily get it over 40mpg on a long motorway run with the cruise set to 80-85, but I think this has improved as the miles have built up?

My mate runs an A6 2.5Tdi and returns similar figures, although admittedly his is a Multitronic it's still a valid comparison.

Interested to hear about the DPF having such an effect on the economy, I'd still rather have it than trail black smoke everytime I put my toe down though!

And cirvy, for god's sake move on! Yes you had a bad experience and for whatever reason you weren't happy, but you seem to pop up on every, even vaguely Brera related thread, to moan yet again about your 18mpg!!! You're rid of the car now and seem happy with your GT so just concentrate on the positive of that eh?! smile
Peace and Love biggrin

Easy way to reduce the weight of the car, rip the engine out and stuff it in a Stratos. Job done wink

I get way better economy out of my 3.0l 12v V6 Corse than I do out of my 2.5l 24v V6 166 biggrin

Interesting thread this. I had been seriously thinking about changing my 159 2.2JTS for the 2.4 diesel, purely on economy grounds. I'm getting around 27mpg on the petrol engine.

Any ideas when the ligthened versions of the 159 are due, maybe that will up the mpg figures a tad.....albeit about 1 mpg probably

The performance of the latest range of Alfas is something i feel strongly about, so i shall always post my thoughts when i see a thread asking for Alfa MPG experiences from members of this forum biggrin

Yes, but the OP was asking for experiences of the 2.4JTD. You do not, or appear ever to have owned an Alfa with this engine, so your '18mpg' stories have no relavance.
If the post was about the 3.2 then fair enough, but it's not and neither are a lot of the posts that you add your 2p to!

It's just getting a bit boring now fella, and if you read the posts from others you'll see plenty feel the same way!
Of course you're entitled to voice your opinions and experiences, that's the whole point of a forum, but please can we move on? smile

Doesn't sound too promising. My Mum's 535d does 35mpg average and that thing shifts...

Diesel engines these days take a long time to run in these days, you may only start to see better consumption figures after 30k+ miles.

My 159 2.4 has 20k on the clock and I'm returning around 34mpg. Not so good for a deisel but I'm enjoying it.
