Try an MGZT-T 190 looks great[I think!]in a dark colour. Mine has done 35000 in 18 months NO trouble at all 30+mpg if not leadfooted -24 if you are! Handles better than my last car [Audi quattro 2.8 Avant] much sharper steering and excellent brakes...and good value.I tried a 2.5D Sportwagon, but didn't rate the dealer, who knew less about the car than me! Now what about the new 4x4..??

I think the MG ZT-T looks good too. Not sure about the latest facelift, but it might look better in real life.

And (with the odd exception) Alfa sales people don't know their Arna from their elbows.

Arna?!! Never blacken this forum with that shameful name again! That was the day Alfa nearly died...

I've had a 156 for just over 3 years (saloon not sportwagon) now with no serious problems with the car. The only thing has been the service that I have got from the main dealer . Actually 'service' is definitely not the word!! Apparently Alfa service has got a reputation across the board in the uk so be carefull!
Have to change mine in December and the new 2.4JTD looks great, lets hope the service improves :-)

Mark.

Well, the deed is done... Over the weekend I slapped down a deposit on Sportwagen 2.0 JTS Veloce demonstrater in brilliant blue. It was about 2K over my original budget, but just looked sooo sexy stood there and I have to tell you there aren't a lot of nearly new ones out there...with the spec I wanted anyway... The cash just had to be splashed!

I pick it up on Friday and am looking forward to some serious . I've been used to fairly mundane family cars over the past 10 years or so, so this should be a major shot in the arm in the thrills stakes!

Thanks for your input and advice chaps

Nice one Dinky!!

Hope it's a good one!

My mate has a Brilliant Blue 2.0JTS Veloce 4 door and it does look good. Don't forget they like to be revved hard! No fannying about below 3000!

I'm in the market for one of these now, well for the missus at least. There's a 1.8 Lusso (black with tan leather, looks superb) in our local dealer that we've arranged to drive on Wednesday. However, I've just seen a 2.0TS Veloce at a Twickenham dealer (blue with grey leather). Both are lowish miles (31k/29k). Is £8.5k to £9k a good price from a dealer?

The Veloce appeals (love the subtle body kit and slightly larger alloys) and I've read the handling's sharper too.

Will let you know how we get on

I have had a veloce for a while now. Reliable, and a very good car. I prefer the look of the veloce, it does look the part.

The only thing that has gone wrong is the rear load cover refuses to whizz back in. That's probably because I took it out to put wood in the back though

Good cars..

Hmmmm, well I've now paid a £500 holding deposit until my wife gives it the thumbs up (it'll be her car)....but it was rather nice

I may have been paranoid, but there appeared to be a slight squeek coming from below. Could this be suspension related? It drove superbly though.

"They all do that sir" to quote mon ami mate on a thread I started with the exact symptoms.

The bushes need a squirt sometimes due to the hot weather.
Nothing to worry about at all, WD40 solves it.

Prior to purchase though, get someone to have a look at all of the rear bushes as they are a pig to change, and do tend to go.

Which one have you gone for?

Just to take slight issue, the bushes are actually quite painless to replace, so long as you catch them before they deteriorate too badly. If this happens you get lots of expensive bits of aluminium rubbing against each other, which leads to large bills!

Cheers for the replies guys. The deposit's down on the blue Veloce.

The missus will test drive the Lusso Thursday PM, I'm sure if she likes driving that she'll like the Veloce even more. The plan is then for her to drive the Veloce Saturday first thing, and if she likes it it's ours!

There's just a nagging thought that Alfa's are bought with the heart, not the head (the alternative would be a Seat Leon Cupra). But it's just so darn desirable

Yes, but the grey leather is a bit airy-fairy for my liking. As ever in the world of cars, shame you can't mix and match and get the 2.0 Veloce in black and tan!

Do either of them have hearse bars on the roof?

Edited due to shocking spelling, but Mike still knew what I meant. Not sure which is more worrying...

The bars have always been an option.
Originally it was a yeah £150 for black ones, or nay for £0.00.
These days you have a choice of none still for £0.00 , aluminium ones to match the door handles for £280.00 or black ones £250.00.
Bargain.

Mine are black ones.
I reckon it would look much better without, wonder how they come off then...

I think they'll come off easy enough.
It's what you do with all the holes in your roof afterwards that's a bit tricky...

No roof bars on either

As much as I love the tan (natural) leather, we've a baby twin turbo on the way so a darker hue will probably hide any "mishaps"! Still, the grey wasn't as bad as I thought...it's almost charcoal.

PS
Anyone wanna buy a Golf Gti....I know of one going cheap

One thing I meant to ask......do Alfa's have a "red key", y'know, the one that costs a fortune to replace?

My wife's old Punto used to have one, so I'm guessing it's a Fiat Group thing.

Cheers
