There is a wolf in sheeps clothing...... 1000 centilitres (cl) is 10 litres. What's the fuel economy like? 0-60?
hehe

CL is the spec' but since you've asked. wink

0-60 in around thirteen seconds-ish (depending on wind direction, temperature and if the tyres are warmed up).

Quarter mile in 17.2 @ 74.6mph.

The best MPG I've managed is 64 but on the commute she averages over fifty miles per Gallon. This isn't that good compared to my old Bianca but that car had the five speed gearbox and the Fantasia only ever came with a four.

Top speed from a four speed is between 95-100mph where as the five speed is good for 110mph and 65-70mpg.

High time to kick my Panda out of hibernation. M.O.T is long over due and Tax is up at the end of the month. I can synchronize tax and test now. Okay it's one of those things that probably shouldn't bug me but I'm a Pandaist.

Another little thing that has always been an issue is my grille.

The grille in my shed has finally got some green paint splashed on it and retrofitted. smile

Superb colour match as always from the artists formally known as Fisher Walker. My Fantasia has her smile back biggrin

While I was in the paint shop I made another investment...

...my Punto will be redundant from jump starting duties. wink

So yesterday I gathered all my Panda wheels...

...for shot blasting. I get them all done so I can sell the reconditioned wheels to pay for the ones I keep.

I also did a proper bodywork assessment...

...a good few days work there. wink

I also conducted a little antisocial experiment.

The Fiorino wheel fits the front of the Panda 750 with no issues...

...this tyre would fit the wheel...

...the difference in width made up by the rim lip.

I'll see if the wider tyre fits the Panda later, then maybe get the Fiorino wheels blasted, painted and wrapped in sexy rubber. smile

Just Pandaing as my Punto is doing day three of the UK Power Tour...

https://www.facebook.com/UKPowerTour?fref=ts

...and will be taken off the road so I can use My Fantasia during the Summer.

Sunday and first of the many minor (make a not of the word "minor" for later) bodywork jobs was the filler hole on the rear wheel arch.

First job, pull the interior trim open and make sure the tail loom and washer jet pipe is safely out of the way...

...cut out the filler and get a look inside to see how much more I need to trim back...

...hmmmmm; maybe a bit more...

...a little more?

What the crap is that?

Under a quarter of an inch of filler I found a crudely tacked on bit of angle plate. rolleyes

A quick tree ring assessment to discover it has been done at last once before as well. Only the filler was applied to bare metal so it rusted from the inside out. Sod this...

...I'm better off starting from scratch.

I did, got carried away and forgot to take photo's. Whoops.

Anyway the arch is now primed with zero filler and will be ready to paint when the other repairs are.

Yesterday I was mostly pillocking about with my sisters Punto getting it ready to fail the MOT today. I didn't get enough warning to do all the checks and subsequently it failed on stupid stuff like headlight adjustment and the exhaust needing a new rubber.

Today I received a call from...

http://www.rockcliffeblasting.co.uk/

...to tell me my wheels were ready to be collected.

Loaded up and home ready for paint.

Five for the Fantasia...

...one to see on and sadly...

...one for the bin. frown

I painted my mirrors before I left and they were dry enough to fit when I got back. smile

I'm not sure about them but it's too late now.

Decadent luxury items for Pandas these. It's rare to have interior adjustable mirrors fitted. wink

I ran out of welding gas doing a job on a mate's Micra so I...

...painted my wheels. wink

I was a little worried as the silver looked too bright. Then I was worried again as the first coat of lacquer made it look as if the paint and primer had mixed. The wheels looked flat, dull and a much darker grey than the silver paint was.
Then the lacquer settled and they look smashing. Second clear coat applied and they're baking in my shed waiting for new tyres. smile

Okay I bought this...

http://www.pistonheads.com/xforums/topic.asp?h=0&a...

...to fix up and sell for a little Summer profit. Had a few ideas of keeping the car long enough to do a decent job and sell for enough to buy the other green Panda 1000CL Fantasia that belongs to a friend of mine in Norwich.

Then I had an idea. What if my friend likes MX5's. He does and I'll be swapping the £500 (or so it owes me) Mazda for his Fantasia that should be worth as much as mine (insurance agreed value of £2,800). bow

So instead of owning one of the rarest cars in the UK; I'll own them both. party

Little in the way of Pandaing over the last couple of weeks but I'm getting tyres for the wheels today and finishing up the body jobs ready for M.O.T.

I have been on eBay Italia as well for a couple of trim parts...

New expensive bit...

...new cheaper bit...

...new metal bit. wink

Considering the car hasn't had a battery since April she started first turn of the key as usual. smile

I had to test the stereo while I was grinding the rust out of the door and it was loud enough to upset the neighbors. hehe

So I bought a new lower windscreen panel...

...remembering how bad the Panda 4x4 (Project Peterborough) one was. So I put the Gazebo up and popped the old knackered windscreen out...

...expecting the worse.

Ummmmm...

...ahhh...

...is that it?

Twenty minutes and zero filler later...

...the green bit was green again.

Another half an hour and again no filler later and...

...the grey bit is now black.

I know some don't like the use of black on this bit but I had a choice of faffing about waiting for the right paint to be mixed or try matte black over white primer instead of grey. That looked crap so I dropped another coat to make it look presentable.

Some super top secret security measures as the car will be sitting under the gazebo without a windscreen I'll fill you in on that tomorrow. Now I'll be spending the rest of the evening cleaning my rifles.

So the super high tech' top secret security system?

A 90dB personal attack alarm on the seat handle with the chord on the door. wink

Well my Fantasia has been patiently waiting for a year and I've done exactly nothing. Apart from experimenting with a polishing mop to delay the respray a while longer she has moved a few times but the petrol is off and the engine doesn't run very well or smell very nice at all.

I've just bought this...

...

...Panda Fizz to keep my Fantasia company.

Fuel injected and five speed with a more sedate interior...

...a tiny scab of rust on the passenger door...

...but the project part is the rear inner sill section.

A drainage hole was blocked with mud so moisture built up the inner sill all the way up to the seat belt anchor.

Should be on the road by the end of the month. wink

So the first job I had planned for today was the steering rack gator. I have a spare one and bought a pair of track rod ends. As one needs to come off it makes sense to fit a new one and like most things it's better to do these things in pairs.

Then it stated raining so I got this...

...much done instead. wink

A new pair of sills arrived in the post so I'll be ready to tackle the Fantasia bodywork as soon as the weather turns. smile

That's not a bad idea. The £300 Fizz is worth £1,500 when she's done and I have just bought a Mitsubisi FTO manual for £330 that needs a new clutch £60 and a bit of tidying up one of only six in the UK so could be worth more than the Panda.

The only issue I can see with the plan is I'd have to sell them. hehe

I probably could do something like that but it would turn my hobby into a profiteering exercise and take the fun (satisfaction) out of it. The Fizz could be my nephews first car in a few years time so it's more of a long term thing.

Seriously I don't see Pound signs when I look at cars and I'm no Ed China or Mike Brewer doing basic repairs using second hand parts, running a polishing mop over and selling cars for a "fully restored" price. I hate "flip" shows like that because for every half way decent job they inspire there are a thousand bodgers calling themselves restorers selling borderline death traps.

If you're taking it on and need some mechanical advice, help or any of my tools let me know. I'll be happy to help. smile

The main reason I've justified buying the FTO is I happen to have a clutch for it in my shed somewhere.

Somewhere. silly

The truth is I was a little drunk and the Jackie Chan classic "Thunderbolt" was on the box. hehe

It'll probably be quicker doing the job than finding the clutch. wink

I've always said if I were to win the Lottery I'll buy a big warehouse and be like Jay Leno; but none of my cars would cost more than a £30,000. There are only three I would buy for more, a Lotus Carlton, Ferrari 355 and Alfa 4C or Evora 400 (tough choice between those two).

Evora due to being manual and therefore a better drivers car but the 4C is such a nice car I can forgive the flappy paddliness.

Back on topic I've decided against doing another thread about the Fizz as it would amount to a minor repair...

...(with the cable tie cut at a forty five degree angle to annoy the crap out of whoever does it next) hehe

...and a bit of welding that turned out to be a lot of welding as I peeled back the layers. I had to cut a section of sill, inner sill, floor flap and suspension mounting plate before I could get to a solid foundation to work from. I replaced the mounting plate with an angle section and the floor flap was replaced with an offset angle section basically making it box section leading up to a new inner sill section I made myself and some of the prettiest welding I have ever done is now covered up with a section of a pattern sill that was so "far out" it should have gone to Woodstock and nowhere near a Panda. Still I fettled it about until it looked presentable and got the black paint out.

Done to what I call a "repair" standard. I actually used filler. rolleyes

The Fizz is now on the road so my 190E can be wedding car. smile

In other news my drunken eBay FTO will get a new friend Sunday as it was cheaper to buy a complete car with a reconditioned gearbox than a rebuild kit. wink

As I'll have a spare one how about an FTO V6 powered Panda?

Plenty of room...

...plenty of vroom!

hehe
