The TVR is just two Mini engine's stuck together. wink

Have you heard of Isigonis moments?

When you go round a corner 20mph quicker than you mate in his Skyline you think "Isigonis you were a genius!" moment and when you try to fit an LCB manifold without stripping the skin from you knuckles on the bulkhead "Isigonis you were a prat!" monent. wink

Back on track-ish. I've been having fun with MS Paint today.

Doable.

Lotto win but doable. wink

Won't lotto win require an HGV test or something?
TVR engine problem is materials used - aluminium block, aluminium heads, steel exhaust barry manifolds, extreme heat. So we are going to take the chance to upgrade by about 80bhp, without simply gluing a Panda to the back bumper (even though that might be cheaper!!)

School of thought concerning the idea of shortening the chassis.

Scammell or convention hitch. The Scammell-esque conversion would be cool a lot more work and practically useless for anything else. The conventional hitch would be more adaptable, easier to do and easier to live with.

Another idea floating about is if the chassis is too rotten take the cab off and bolt it to a Range/Land Rover V8 one. I was toying with the idea of four wheel drive using Transit bits (from an old Ambulance) a 4x4 recovery vehicle would be even more useful. wink

Inspired by these builds...

I've been thinking that if I have to shorten the chassis I could channel it as well...

...I've always wanted to do that with a Morris Minor van so I'd paint it the colour of my old one...

I've also been thinking about the rear axle. As well as replacing the leaf springs with a Watts-esque set up...

...either coil overs or airbags (from a Range Rover) to aid loading. As for the rear wheels...

...they can be welded together and banded to replace the twin wheel set up to accommodate a single pro-street style tyre.

No more Transit stuff on this thread (I've started another). wink

I had a choice this month between taxing my Panda or getting Transit bits. So I charged the battery overnight and gave the old girl a try today. Hmmmm, tuning over just fine but the fuel pump isn't picking anything up. No matter how I primed it I couldn't get any petrol through the pump. The petrol gauge said I had quarter of a tank but we all know how reliable they can be. Put a can's worth in the tank and tired again. I can prime the car up okay and she started for a few seconds before cutting out and the filter was empty again. rolleyes

New fuel pump on it's way and I'm cycling to work again. wink

New fuel pump fitted and she's alive again. biggrin

Shame I can't take the car out for a run to see if all the problems have been solved but I can't afford to Tax the Panda and buy bits for the Transit. Even if I did decide to rent the log book for another six months I would be able to fill the car with petrol so it would have been as much of a waste of time and money getting a bit of paper as it has been the stater motor (see other thread).

With any luck the HMRC will remember my tax code this month so I'll have a little extra to play with when the payday fairies visit again.

My poor Pandas are feeling neglected. I can't afford to tax my Fantasia and my £999 Challenge project...

...has become a storage facility.

Time for a tidy.

A couple of weeks of miscellaneous bodywork and we'll be ready for paint. wink

Transition day today. Basically that means I did a day shift yesterday and will doing a night shift tonight. To compensate my shiftlag I have a couple of hours in the afternoon before I need to think about work to get the odd little job done.

Today I cleaned the passenger side of my Panda interior.

I had kind of forgotten it was a car but now looking very office like again. smile

Finished tidying the interior today.

...as I'm not going to have much power the last thing I want to do is add weight. So with that in mind I thought instead of welding plates to all the dash holes where the heater and other vents were I could use...

...Super Ligera tape instead. wink

Distracted I faffed about trial fitting the rev counter...

...and as the weather has turned to typical April showers I couldn't get the bodywork done I had planned so started to paint the interior.

When I woke up a Fox with a Unicorn-esque horn, violet and yellow badger stripes and a Glasgow accent said it looked crap. I agreed and will do the rest later.

I've paid £77 (is that the going rate for twenty pieces of silver these days) to rent my log book for six months. There's nothing like the feeling of taking a car that you have worked a great deal with back on the road. smile

That feeling lasted sixty yards. rolleyes

This looks familiar. So familiar in fact after I emptied a can of petrol in the tank (simplest solution first) it took a mater of seconds to swap carb's over...

...the car ran perfectly for a few seconds and cut out again. Checked the fuel lines and filter; all okay check for a spark. Dead.
Take the distributor off, apart, cleaned out (thinking condensation on the points where she's been stood a while), rebuilt, replaced, retimed, turn the key and the car starts for a few seconds and cuts out again. Hmmmmm....

Put a multimeter across the coil. 12.4V on both sides? scratchchin

I'd forgotten the first rule...

When an old car breaks down check the parts that have "Lucas" written on them first

The coil from the 750 in place...

...and she's running perfectly again. smile

Is that gearbox oil on my drive? Grrrrrr!!!!

I was going to finish painting the inside of the racing Panda today but as usual I was distracted by my transporter project. More importantly the live feed from the battery to where the tail lift used to be. There's a two foot long cable from the battery to a fuse panel and the secondary wire feed from the fuse goes all the way to the back of the chassis. That's the earth and live for relocating the Panda battery taken car of then. I still have terminals and kill switches left over from the Guff Cinquecento.

As it was nice out and there are still relatively fewer bugs this time of year I thought I'd give my gravity gun a go...

...it used a lot more paint than my old vacuum one, the dispersal was inconsistent to put it politely and the finish wasn't that bad but I'll not be using that gun again.

Now the big question; do I paint the bumpers blue, orange or at all?
