I bought this at the NEC auction at the weekend. It’s my third Alfa after a 2006 GT and a modern Giulia Quad. Looking forward to a completely different experience!
Very nice and a good price - a Alfa Step Nose just got sold recently at HPC for a reported 120k which is good news in the current market MTW said:
Yes a few bits, the alfaholics stage 1 suspension kit (although only got round to fitting the springs, dampers and ARB so far) alfaholics TZ wheels. And just renewed a few bits like fuel system lines and pumps, new exhaust, coil and plugs etc. I do have a set of twin carbs I’m hoping to fit soon. Loving it so far!
Sounds like you have the perfect chance now to finish off the outstanding jobs now the winter is drawing in , bet it would sound epic full bore on twin 40's MTW said:

Yes fingers crossed! I’ve just managed to get a council garage this week! So the Caterham will be going in there and the Giulia will be going in my home garage so I can get all the outstanding work done!Yes can’t wait to get them fitted up! Going to try and strip as much out of the engine bay as I can before I fit them and give it a bit of a re-paint (engine bay wasn’t painted with the previous resorts)
Those arches you have done look great, I love those riveted on arch extensions, they always look great on the coupe!
Thanks they were an Autodelta racing mod back in the day even have the correct number of rivets, Caterham will be a good yard stick for your mods.
Another big step forward in the project, having a rollcage was always going to be part of the overall theme of this car - sort of GT3 club sport - or that's the plan in my head.
Looked at a few options I wanted the weld in look but the option to remove it for painting etc, but most bolt in cages come with what I think are ugly bolted SD type connections, So to get what I wanted I ended up buying the AH weld in cage and then converted this to be a bolt in, as part of this we added the clamp type joints to give it that clean look ( see the last pic for an example of this joint), and while we were there we also designed some extra bolted in locations.
I am hoping this cage along with the seam welding and the additional front chassis stiffening is going to make the shell pretty stong ......the pics are showing the cage build in progress so plenty of finish welding still to complete.

I'm really enjoying this thread having just bought a 2000gtv.
I'm very tempted to put a twin spark engine in also.
Are there any good build threads anyone would recomend showing the details and what's involved? Also what's the going rate for a twinspark engine these days if you can find one?
Keep up the good work!

TS engine are becoming very rare, they do come up but mainly in Europe join some of the FB groups that's where i have seen the ones advertised. if your not looking for big power and you already have a 2L Nord I think I would be tempted to modify that, with a NA engine is always going to be a diminishing return on what you end up paying for how much power. Be interested to see how you get on and what route you end up taking,
I had a ride a few years ago in 105 with 200bhp and a Quaife sequential and that was very impressive.

You will be lucky to find a donor engine under £1500 nowadays. i have had this done on my 67 GTJ and also have an Alfetta GTV wtih a twinsaprk engine setup in it. Stock engine will give around 150bhp0 and you can comfortably get to around 200bhp with better cams, etc. Make sure the crankshaft has spigot pre-drilled otherwise will need this done as not all 75s had this from factory.

Alfa BB although US based, has excellent threads - this is just one i googled.

Of course, warm up your credit card if you start looking at Alfaholics twinspark builds!
https://www.alfaholics.com/filters/twinspark-engin...
You then have to decide whether carbs or ITBs, standalone ECU, etc - costs build up and a useful start is looking at people who have done this before.
first picture below is standard 75 Twinsaprk setup from my Alfetta GTV and below that is the (older) Jenvey ITB setup with Omex ECU, etc on the 105 GTJ.
HTH and good luck!
Thanks for the links and info much appreciated - bet the ITB set up sound awesome when it comes on cam

I'm used to minis and tuning them. Although a bit of a different kettle of fish, I've buit a fairly hot engine for my pickup. Its bored out +60, rally cam and I've ported the head and fitted bigger valves. It flys but even the parts cost of that was over a grand for a humble A series.
My gut instinct having looked into it a bit more is to improve the Nord. Only because it's such a nice original car with bags of history. Plus I think I will end up spending alot to get the twinspark to a output we're it's worth the effort.
I'm thinking nord engine with
Fast road cams
Port the head and bigger valves
H/C forged pistons
Lightened flywheel
Alfaholics exhaust
Let's see what kind of engine that gets. There's probably 3.5k there just in parts. So if I got 160bhp, that's a grand per 10bhp. I don't want it to be ballistic but would like it to be lively.
Any update on this build thread. I.ll start my own build thread soon

from memory there is a sweet spot of cost verses BHP which from memory is 160/180 spending money only on the parts you need for the revs required to get there.
As for mine formulating a plan for the engine, gearbox and diff.

I had a chat with a few friends and there are lots of companies that could help with your decisions but it would be worth calling Bob Dove Motorsport My gut instinct having looked into it a bit more is to improve the Nord. If you are planning to do the majority of engine work yourself it would be worth picking up a copy of Alfa Romeo DOHC High-performance Manual by Jim Kartalamakis. It'll have to be second hand or an ebook though as it is no longer in print https://www.amazon.co.uk/Alfa-Romeo-DOHC-High-perf...

I think I can improve on what it's a nice original car.
The Alfa engine bay does look a bit busy, it would depend how far you wanted to go, I always look at what AH have done with there engine bays very stripped back so the engine is almost on its own - the centre point. My plane is to move the fuse box into the cabin, get rid of the servo and go unassisted battery relocated to the boot ? if your engine is coming out anyway you have all sorts of options, be interested to see how far you want to go ?
