Integrale Evo 2, worth the extra?

Had 2 Evo 1's and an Evo 2 Bianca Perla which I sold last year. They all have the same problems and foibles including rust. But are one of the greatest most intoxicating cars ever to grace the planet. I sold mine to a collector in Singapore (via Auto Integrale) for a price I never thought possible. But in the last year it's doubled in value! I couldn't face paying those premiums now, even considering how good they are. I'd buy on condition though. A good Evo 1 is better than a bad Evo 2. Don't discount a jap import but it should be cheaper. It'll have ugly lights, a wing aerial, no history and likely modified...but it'll have little to no rust.
See I don't mind the larger outer lights as my 8v and 16v had those and I consider it part of the original look. I don't think I'll bother changing the lights over to euro spec personally. It's always something to do at a later date. Just off to look at the car I just bought today. I haven't driven an Integrale since 1991 but I love the way they look which has only gotten more appealing over the years plus the tiny proportions all make it such a gem.

I have a White Evo2 and a Yellow Evo2 Giallo. Both 100% rust free and clean as a whistle Grade 4+ cars. I only buy from Japan for that reason. Cars are in Euro setup with regular Evo2 lights. If not, that costs around 500ukp to sort out. One has history and the other has evidently only done its 40k km with all delivery plastic still in place. In my experience most Grales from Japan have been pampered collectors cars. Easy to avoid modified examples. You save around 10 - 20% by importingEvo 1s and 16v Japan Auction values trail UK prices substantially and I've seen some real bargains go through. Especially with modified examples as the market is driven by collectors. If I was looking for a daily driver, that's what id go for. E.g. Grade 3 Evo 1 that's been touched with the Japanese ugly stick and bolt on parts. Save 10K and drive it the way it should be driven.... In a few years, when its tired, re invest the money you saved in an overhaul.

After experiencing a lazy restorer I changed body shop. The guys have unearthed rust not known to mankind. Its an evo 2 and will need a total strip down. So my opinion is the 2 will rust just as much as an 8v.
Even a rust free looking car can be hiding a lot of rot. If I'd stayed with the previous shop this rust would not have been dealt with.
Looks like the welcoming of the U.S. market has pushed the used values up even more.

I realise that this is an old thread...
I haven't had as many integrales as many others, but I've had a few (8v, 2x16v, 8vCat, 2xEvo2 (Verde York, Dealers Collection). I just don't get the Evo2, compared to the earlier models. It was the early cars which won most of the rallies and championships, and created the aura. And I find the 16v so much nicer to drive - the Evo2 is cramped with those overlarge seats, lacks the easy positioning of the early cars, and whilst the chunky arches look good, so many critical details have been lost - the twin pipes, the different sized headlamps, the wheels, etc.
Am I the only one to believe that there's a little bit of "the emperor's new clothes" about the 2 ?

a white HF Turbo Martini edition,
a grey HF Integrale 8v (later with a 16v bonnet from a Evo 2 that was used for the Lancia Hyena)
a red HF Integrale 16v
a yellow HF Integrale with a green cage Evo 1
The Evo bonnet I bought, I bought in Duiven above Arnhem NL, no Internet at the time, came across it in a ad with some Lancia Delta HF Integrale parts...those parts were all new and painted, many new body parts, used for the only 24 hyena cars, built on new Evo 2 cars...
I wondered, so they showed me a Lancia Hyena (2 were there) those guys build them?
very interesting to see, in the corner they had a Jaguar xj220 my first of that type I saw, was somewhere back in 1994 I believe.

I don't get the point of paying more for a 2 than 1, but I found an Evo superior all round. Much better brakes, lights and the suspension could cope with a lot more. The 8 and 16v felt a lot crashier. Gassing Station | Alfa Romeo, Fiat & Lancia | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
