Alfa 156 - 2.5 V6 vs 2.4 JTD
Discussion
Hi there, despite now being on my 3rd 156 this is my first appearance in this forum! I've owed a 1998 2.5 V6 for about 10 years & have had nothing but trouble. My love for Alfa's however has not wained & so with winter upon us & an impending respray on my TVR, what more of excuse did I need?!
So I've just got myself a 2002 2.4 JTD at a bargain price & am over the moon with it. My question is, does anyone know if there is a list of parts that are interchangeable between the 2?? My V6 has too many faults to justify spending the money to get it sorted out, but if I'm to finally say goodbye to it I'd like to remove bits for spares, if possible that is.
At the moment the temp gauge in the diesel isn't working properly. I'm assuming this is a thermostat issue, so if that's the case will the stat from the V6 fit on the diesel??
Many thanks in advance!

From what I've heard - when they were new - the unshipped cars went directly to a specialist who did the diesel to make it work. Mwah ... I guess maintenance is the keyword here. Well serviced cars may have the pricetag but will keep you out of trouble ... I hope. I know a handfull of 156 owners. All engines. They are happy with their cars.
Well turns out the stats aren't compatible so I've ordered a new one. Managed to find one for £21! Doesn't seem bad. Tried to swap the window buttons & housing over as well but even they were bloody different!! Just wondering now which bits to keep as spares before I get rid of the V6... Lights etc perhaps?
As for away from the engine bay, well the interior is mostly different. The later front seats have airbags in them.
Door mirrors are the same, glass tint possibly excepted. They're worth having. The painted ones are exactly the same as the black plastic ones, just painted over the top.
All the panels except the F&R bumpers that got tweaked very slightly should be the same. Lights the same.
I don't know what else I'd take off it besides that.

I don't think there's a damn thing in the engine bay other than electricals that are common between V6 and 2.4 JTD. Ask over on alfaowner.com though - much more knowledge there.
I have both a 2.5 V6 and 2.4 JTD 20vUnder the bonnet?
The air filter is the same.
That's all, folks...
Out of interest how to the two stack up?
Very much enjoying the V6 although several noises indicate belts and bushes need doing. Funnily enough I don't find the sound quite as good as I expected.
Thing is 20mpg is okay since I only work 5 miles away but in would imagine a diesel would be in order if I ever moved work!

Hello R7 - totally off topic but i just had to tip my hat to you sir for your fine taste in motor vehicles.. im not biased because i also have a Tuscan and Alfas !!! hahaha
And a plagued V6 is a sign of a bad history/ownership in my opinon, unfortunately for you. Every V6 Alfa i have had has been fantastic, my current 156 is a real testament to how good these cars are when you got the history.. i paid a mere £1000 for her and since doing cambelt, other than the obligatory front suspension arms etc she hasnt cost me a penny.. well other than all that fuel and tyres i just love to burn
