Hello all,

What do you guys reckon to my latest problem....?

My check engine light came on last weekend and has been on and off intermittently since then.(although i haven't driven much at all). The car has also been a bit cheeky when it comes to starting on a couple of occasions since the light came on, with the engine taking much longer to catch than usual.

Do you think it could be just down to a dodgy load of fuel or something more sinister. I had the clutch changed recently - could that have done something?

The diagnostic code on the DIC for the PCM is P0342H which (for those of you who don't know the error codes off by heart) is something to do with the Camshaft Position Sensor?

Someone please tell me my car is not about to blow up?!!

Chris,

I know you mentioned camshaft position sensor, but for the *crankshaft* position sensor, this is usually a series of magnets on the crankshaft, or "holes" , which are used to determine the crank - and hence cam - position and thus to modify spark advance.

I believe that if there's a problem, it [the ECM] will resort to some default timing...

Now, for the problem: I don't own a C5, but I do own a 91 ZR1 and a 99 Caddy STS ... I'm in Ireland on business at the moment, but I'll have a look when I get back (tomorrow) in the service manuals for both of these and for what the problems can be caused...

Not much help, I know, but hopefully throws a bit of light on it!

I found this website
www.dvcorvettes.com/c5_computer_diagnostic_codes.htm

and it said:

P0342 CMP Sensor Circuit Low Voltage

Not sure if this helps - probably the 'H' is something else??

If anyone can have a look in the service manual it would be great!

Cheers,

I know its not as severe as Vette78's check engine light - but just checking my code log today and it had activated:

B0 RFA - B2805 No Transmitters Programed

Anyone know what this is - does anyone else have it?
Its a 2001 C5 Auto.

BTW Did you sort your engine issue Vette78?

Suspect you haven't programmed your key fobs to your car so that you have remote entry! Either that or your key fobs need new batteries or you recently disconnected the battery.

Are any of these the case?

1. Suspect you haven't programmed your key fobs to your car so that you have remote entry!

I have two sets and they both open/unlock/lock doors boot, petrol lid fine standing a few feet away. Not sure what you mean by remote entry... Is that just remote control locking, or the thing where you can approach the car, and it knows who you are and open the car.

2. Either that or your key fobs need new batteries

The buttons are a little worn (can't see the symbols on them) and the 3 second delay on opening the boot is a pain in the ass, but they all work.

3. You recently disconnected the battery.

Not done either

I know of two sets of the full manuals. One is held by tesicle who is away and the other is held by yellowshark454 (aka Pete). I'm sure Pete won't mind if you e-mail your code to him. Might as well put his manuals to good use.

USA and Euro vettes have a completely different fob. Provided you're not having any problems it may be as simple as the infernal computer saying "you have a Euro car and there are no US fobs programmed" but I don't know. Whilst C5s don't have many electrical gremlins the computery that runs the car can be inclined to a mind of its own from time to time which makes the owner worry but seems to have little effect on driving the car. Included in this category are the tyre pressure readings and also erratic fuel guage readings. These things peaked in my car just before the battery packed up so I suspect that the computery may be particularly sensitive to voltage fluctuations.
