Leaving in a couple of hours, will probably be heading across the A34/M4 junction at about 8pm.

Is it bad enough down there to go down the M40 and round to the M3 via the M25 ??

This evening, I'm using the A34 to Portsmouth, leaving north Oxfordshire, was going at 8.30pm. But, talking to people that have travelled 'north' on the A34 late evenings during the past week. I'm starting out at 8pm.

Roadworks, down to single lane southbound about 10 miles south of the A34/M4 junction. Long southbound tailbacks reported from people traveling north.

Edited to add: I'm still using the A34, but if you use the M40/M25/M3/M27, then there will be one less car in the A34 queue for me to worry about.

Just had a look on highways agency web-site. Says delays of 10 mins southbound.

We should be OK later this evening then. Oh, why do I think that 10 mins delay is OK?.

The delays can vary I've been sat before trying to go southbound from 6pm till 6:25pm before the traffic started moving again! The best is probably 10 mins in light traffic.

It does get easier later on so you should be OK
